Good morning folks. We have really had a good time away from home this weekend. We spent a large portion of yesterday at Battleship Park. The normal attractions are very cool but they were also hosting a HUGE car show. Lots of really cool low riders if you like those. We finally got down to Cedar point in Dauphin Island last night to fish. Oldest boy caught one small Grunt but nothing else. The girl, middle boy and I didn't catch anything but the youngest boy caught a nice blue crab on rod &reel. He actually got it on the pier too. He managed to get 2 more on but they dropped off when he tried pulling them out of the water. Boy was he excited... I don't know when I have enjoyed watching a kid fishing...
Heading home this afternoon though. Somebody has to go back to work...
sorry the fishing wasn't better N.AL-Tider
sounds like you and the kids had a great time though
Mr. Mac at the pier is good people
next time you go try this ...
get some #10 treble hooks from the pier store
put a 3/4 oz. weight above a swivel
tie a 18 in. leader on the bottom of the swivel and then the #10 treble
get some dead shrimp from Mr. Mac or Ralph at the pier store
peel the shrimp like you are going to eat it
weave it around the #10 treble so it looks like a ball on the three hooks
the white trout love it
the second light from the T on the west side is the hot spot usually
we fed the Vigor football team a nice trout dinner with this method
on the east side of the pier in the same spot try this
your biggest rod and reel combo
a 3-6 oz. weight with a large hook set up the same way as for the trout
buy a few live crabs from the pier store and bait up the hook
throw it far as you can towards the DI bridge and wait for the fight of your life
big redfish , black drum and sharks will give you a nice tug ...
