why are those fishermen wearing mask ?
are they banditos ?

Banditos for sure.  One is me, and the other is my guide and friend.  He's from Mobile.

I don't want you crazy stalkers knowing my face.  You see how much trouble Harvey has had ever since people recognized him.  Tongue Tongue

There's a big difference in people that kill fish and people that kill worshipped trees. Last I heard, fish killing is still acceptable. ( I know, screw PETA).  Grin

LOL.  Grin

Bottom line is, I don't want you guys to know I'm a 60-year-old black man with VitiligoCool (wink, wink)  Wink  [we need better emoticons]

Professor Chechem, what kind of grass would you suggest for my mud?  My reading indicates bermuda.

From the looks of things, bermuda would be best.  If there are areas with some shade, zoysia might be necessary.  You can also get bermuda-fescue mix (not the tall fescue like in pastures; short yard stuff).

Going for a walk.  Later...

Can expand on "some shade"?  Like shady most of the day or ...

Does the cat go on the walk?

Okay, I'm finally back.  I put in the new Office 2007 upgrade before I left and it just now finished so I could get on again.

No, Cat does not walk.  Lady Friend walks.

Shade.  Bermuda should grow under your pines, since they're tall.  Oaks and other dense-shade trees create too much shade for Bermuda to grow well.  Rule of thumb: if you can't grow annual flowers under it, Bermuda won't grow.  And "no", St Augustine won't grow north of B'ham (or in most of it).

What else?

What do you think about the tree in the clay hill I made?

Arborvitae are pretty forgiving, and it's a day for forgiveness.  But it may never forgive you.

Generally it's not good to plant trees on new soil, especially this.  Is there any top soil in that pile?  My experience with B'ham soils (at my Mom's) were they looked like crap (red like this), but they were full of minerals and productive for plantings.  They just lacked carbon.  You should know if the soil is good.  If so, it'll be okay.  It's way better than planting in a wet area with soil that doesn't drain.  Dry is better.  Rule: million-dollar hole for a ten-dollar tree.  If you gave it plenty of room to start, gave it plenty of good soil (the black stuff), it should be okay.

I have 2 of these.  I've cut them down to 1' (from 15') twice.  They're hardy.

Yes there is some soil.  I specifically dumped a couple of layers of dirt with grass in the pile up there.  It is clayey chert.  If I were classifying it for logging.  I would call it CH, high plasticity clay, >50% clay, >90% fines, moderate moisture, strong cohesion, abundant gravel sized angular chert, laminated with yellow, red, gley, and trace organic layers.

Most of that is Greek, but I understand enough to know it wouldn't drain well if it weren't a hill (like a raised bed).  That tree should grow to 5-6' in 3 years.

Best part about this guide, besides his knowledge of flyfishing, is when I catch a big fish he says, "Roll Tide".  He and I watched the Bama NC game in Belize together.  He's a fan (enough said).  Cheesy

Not on here, but he used to on TS.  I don't know his e-name.  I'll ask next time I email him.  He's not going to the island this trip; maybe December.

Smitty will probably remember this story, so I'll give the abridged version.  Guide and I were on the island the morning of the NC game.  We were trolling along the wall, and he said, "I'm worried about the UT running game. Colt McCoy is hard to stop."  I said (without thinking), "If he does, Dareus will kill him."

The TV on the island got zapped by lightning, so Guide and I took a boat ashore that evening and rented a room (see above).  When it happened (Dareus crushed Colt), Guide looked at me with his mouth open.  "High five."  Great day, great game.

That's it. Here is another that was hilarious. The Rick James skit was funny too, but language too strong to be posted here. Nobody pokes fun at racism any better than Chappelle. Again, language warning.
