Closer.

God love him.  People in the south are resilient.  Contrast this with the royal couple driving today.

Closer.

I know. That's what made me respond. Totally incredible. All the way back from SC today, every radio station, regardless of which state I was in, gave directions to people for drop-off points in the area to donate what they could for relief to victims. NC, SC, GA, AL and even here in P'cola. I will donate tomorrow when I feel like getting into a car again. I remember the effort the South put out for us when we were hit by Ivan, particularly Alabama.

Sorry, 2.  I went out to wrestle with the big downed tree in my backyard.  It is the one that has pulleys on it for my 2 bird feeders.  It is at a 60-degree angle, against a black-gum tree.  During the past 2 days it has begun inches into a lower angle  Shocked as the gum bends under the enormous weight.  Soon it'll either fall off the gum, or the gum will break under the strain.

So, I went out and disconnected the cables from the big oak and moved them to another tree.  It took quite a while to go up an extension ladder to set new pulleys, down the ladder, make adjustments, back up... ad infinitum.

But I have it fixed, and there are now Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks on the biggest feeder.

Beautiful birds. Haven't seen them since the last time I was in West Tennessee.

Yep, I love to see those grosbeaks.  Here is the only tree that didn't make it to the ground.  The other 12  Shocked did.

Deck and cat's watering hole below.

Thanks, Smitty.  It's hard to tell with this wide-angled pic, but the property drops off below the deck.  That is a BIG tree that's down (2.5-3' dia; 60-70' tall; mature Scarlet Oak).  Anyhow the deck is 2 levels.  The property drops to an intermittent stream (sunny area is middle of it), then the property elevates about 30-40' gradually back 100m to a crest.  The crest is where most of the trees are down.  It's 5 acres with woods and trails on 4.5 of it.
