How do I get crawdads in my drainage ditches?  Where do they come from?  I find it odd.  Think someone caught one and put them in the pond at one point?  Or do they spontaneously generate?

Crayfish migrate over land, especially during the breeding season and during droughts.  Plus, they can move around when water is high.  When I lived in Louisiana we'd see hundreds of them crossing rural roads during the spring (breeding).  The college kids would collect them from the roads (picture fraternity road trips) for their crawfish boils.

Lady got home from the store, so I asked her about the garage-door man.  
She started laughing.  "Can you believe it", she said, "he had a mangled hand."
"Hurt working on a garage?" I asked.
"A spring slammed his hand."
