The ankle bracelet/home confinement crowd around here can't pass one. I see in the paper of them being reincarcerated all the time.

I've had 2 comical episodes with the Customs dogs while traveling overseas.

1. A lady friend and I were traveling to Australia.  After about 20 hours we arrived in Brisbane.  While awaiting our luggage, the Customs people strolled by to ask questions.  A small beagle with a satchel on its back came and sat next to lady, then started bobbing its head.  Politely the agent asked her to surrender her backpack.  He looked through it and found nothing.  The dog was allowed to sniff inside.  It sat again and bobbed its head.  Agent asked, "Did you perchance have a Sprite in here?"  "Yes."  "Sprite has citrus in it.  He can smell that."  It was then we realized the dog was checking for agricultural products, not drugs.

2. I was in line at US Customs in Miami with 3 guys who'd spent a week flyfishing in the Caribbean.  They'd bought Cuban cigars in Honduras.  They nervously discussed it as the line moved forward.  They all agreed that the cigars could not be detected as Cubans, because they'd removed the wrappers.  Then I saw one turn and face the others with a blank stare.  Ahead of us a drug-sniffing dog was working the line.  They turned pale.  But the dog walked right past.  Just the fear in their faces was worth it.  Grin

meh, I may want something to hide some day.  I take my personal liberty very seriously.

I take these tests two or 3 times a year, it's no big deal, but if they were popping them on me like I was a criminal and sniffing at my car I would find somewhere else to work.

Random testing is a blue collar thing.  I have never been subject to it.  We are required to have one a year for most contracts.  I end up usually taking one for every new contract I start on since lately that has been more frequent than yearly.

The rig crews are tested, but our guys are not. Too high up and hard to repacle.

Exactly, you know what happens when you have random drug testing?  People fail.   We worked on a refinery in california that required random.  After the first round of randoms we lost 2 out 4 guys that got popped.  They just got put on other projects.

WV, I hope you weren't one of the guys calling me an idiot on the TS Gulf Oil Spill forum.  I forgot who they were (fortunately), but someone with drilling experience kept insisting that oil floats (all of it), so cleanup would be easy.
