Mrs. 2 and I got back to P'cola from Nashville about 1:00 yesterday. We had a great time but Mrs. 2 brought back a cold with her. I am her caretaker today. YAY!

Friday night we went to the Grand Ole Opry and saw the likes of Mo Bandy and Ricky Skaggs. Saturday morning we went to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Very impressive!

For lunch, we made our way to the strip (Broadway St) and ate at Blake Shelton's saloon, 'Ole Red'. It was very entertaining and the food was good, but maybe our decision to go to the strip on a spring break Saturday wasn't the best idea we ever had. It was a mad house and we liked to have never gotten back out of downtown Nashville.

We finished off the day by eating at the 'Santa Fe Cattle Company' near our hotel (away from downtown near the Opry). Mrs. 2 had pasta, a mortal sin at a steak house, but she said it was very good. I had one of the best NY strips I've ever had. Unfortunately, we were too tired to chew and only hate about half of our food before retiring to the hotel where we crashed and burned.

I'll try to post some pics when I have more time.

We are less than 2 hours to Nashville, so we go there for weekend getaways 2-3 times a year. A great city with lots of entertainment and good food. Traffic is terrible. We normally stay on the outskirts of town in the Brentwood area. We Uber to Broadway or just about anywhere else we go. Uber round trip is about the same cost as parking, and you can have a few adult beverages without having to drive.

Until you get back to the Brentwood area... Panic

Yeah, Uber is definitely the way to go. We used Uber to go to the Opry, but we drove to downtown. Won’t do that again,

Happy 2's Day errbody! My friend of 60 years is in town. He, my grandson and I will be going to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos baseball game tonight against the Birmingham Barons. Pensacola won it all last year and are the defending Southern League champions.

Enjoy.  I saw the Barons many times in Rickwood Field and several times the Mobile Bears in Mobile but never a Pensacola home game.  Wickapedia, BTW, says Rickwood is the oldest baseball sadium in the U.S., but I question that.

Rickwood Field is the oldest active park. The Barons play one game there each year to keep the active status.

Parking at some of those lots in downtown Nashville is absolutely ridiculous (expensive).   I found a parking garage a block north of the Ryman a few years back, and it's my go to.  It's a fourth of the cost of some of those small lots.

I'm a fan of Ricky Skaggs, so I'd like to have seen him, but the price of the Opry is too much to pay to hear one artist play a couple songs.   You have to cross your fingers and hope there will be several there that you enjoy.

Well done. I'm glad to hear that.

I grew up in Birmingham. My Dad would take me and my brother to games at Rickwood. They were the Birmingham A's at that time. They later changed their name back to the Barons in 1981.

The link below provides the History of Rickwood. The old park is special to me. In addition to Double A games, they would hold pre-season exhibition games each year. I remember the Braves, Red Sox, White Sox, Orioles, Tigers, Expos and Senators playing there. (I know, showing my age with the Expos and especially the Senators.)

Quote
In tradition which dates back to 1996, the Barons return to Rickwood Field once per season to play the "Rickwood Classic," a "turn back the clock" game to honor the history of baseball in the city of Birmingham. The annual induction class of the Barons Hall of Fame is announced during the Rickwood Classic, as well.

Rickwood celebrated it 100th year on August 18th, 2010, as it became the first ballpark in America to reach the historic centennial figure.

The old Rickwood field was a great memory to us all. RTR! I remember when I listen to WVOK on radio and they would carry some of the Rickwood plays. RTR!

Growing up in Montgomery, I was obviously a big fan of the Montgomery Rebels AA baseball team. I actually worked for them when I was 14 and 15 years old. Saw lots of players come through. My first year there, Gene Lamont and Jim Leyland were the catchers. Every night when I came to work, they would be warming up the pitchers, Leyland with a cigarette always hanging out of his mouth.

Ha!  As soon as your said Leyland I was going to ask if he smoked in the dugout.

I watched several future major leagers play at Rickwood, including Gus Triandos, a big hitter who went on to the Yankees and then years with the Orioles.
