Crappy day.  Had to have words with a coworker on top of the weather, everything breaking, and just being a monday.

So listen to this.

Dude is running around in the truck I use, no big deal.  Dude is done, ok good.  Dude picks me up and takes me to the rig, ok.  Dude says "i need the truck"  ... not happy, I agree to drill the hole with my s*** laying on the ground, freezing in the wind, and with nothing I cant grab in 2 minutes.  Ok.

So he leaves and I overhear he is leaving the base.  I chime in and ask the driller. " Oh yeah, , he's going home".

"In the truck" I asked...

"no he has a car"

"so he needed the truck to drive to the parking lot so he can go home?  And then left it there unused?"

Driller "ummm"

Me "holy &*@!13 !! are %#$@%@ kidding me? that piece of *@#$! better get back here now.

Driller "umm, he's the field manager"

Me "Really?"

I proceed to call the boss.  Dude had to turn around and come back to base and bring me the truck.

 Angry

I hate that it had to go down like that/

That looks more dangerous than a garage door spring.  He should have used a helium balloon.  HTH.

Remember when the fallen angel was kicked out of Heaven. It was because he was the one that invented the garage door spring. I prefer the "chainsaw on a rope" method, rather than the "tied to your belt" method he used. If you need some counterbalance or something to help pull yourself up, you can loop the saw over a limb. Being honest, I haven't climbed a tree with a saw in 4-5 years. It is time for the young guys to learn a new life skill.

OK, I put my mad paint skillz to use.  The basic idea is to just use the balloon to lift a second line in to place.  Don't pop the balloon and hope it will fall back down on the other side of the branch.  The second line will be pretty heavy since it will be used to pull the rope and you don't want it to break (50lb test?).  I would go with the strongest one they have at Wal-mart if you don't already have a spool.  The main line can be just whatever you have in your rod and reel.  Tie the balloon on to the main line from the reel.  Allow it to go up 50 feet or so, however much you will need to clear the tops of the trees (height of tree - height of branch).  Now tie a loop in the line.  This loop will act as a pulley for the heavy line.  Thread the heavy line through the loop.  Then put some lead weight on it.  Make sure the loop is small enough that the lead can't come back through and fall out, but not tight because you want to be able to slide the heavy line up and down to guide it as needed.  Now let the balloon(s) and second line with the weight rise high enough to be above the dead branch.  Have the girl walk around and manipulate the heavy line so that it is on the opposite side of the dead branch from the boy.  Now she can let the line down to the ground and it will be across the branch.  Reel in the balloons.  Remove the weights and pull the heavy line out of the loop.  Tie the rope on to the heavy line and use it to pull the rope up over the branch.  If the branch is 70ft off the ground the rope will need to be at least 2 times that so that both ends can reach back to the ground.  Tie a loop in one end of the rope.  Leave the loop open so it doesn't create any friction.  Feed the other end through the loop and pull on it.  The loop will rise up to the branch.  Now it should be tight around the branch so you can pull it down (or break the rope).

You should be able to maneuver this rig somewhat if it isn't too windy.  The second heavy line acts as a tag line to help steer.  Assuming you have a fishing pole and line, all you need is enough helium balloons to lift some lead fishing weights.

Now it should be as clear as mud.  Cheesy

I did. I lived in Morgan City 30 years ago. Why is MC, Berwick, Patterson all in white? Bayou Teche would back up if basin flooded? Do you know?

I don’t know that looks strange, could be the levies elevation. Or something to do with the Charenton or Calumet flood gates.
I remember levees just north of Morgan City, on road to Donaldsonville? But still, that whole area is surrounded by water or low lying cane fields, before flooding.
First they use eminent domain to steal your property to build a levee. Then they blow holes in it and flood your property when the water gets high. WTH
