Since Montgomery is the center of government, do you find people around the state have a (generalized) basic distrust of people from that area? Do other areas think that the H'Ville area or the university towns, to be a bunch of liberal eggheads?

It's difficult to discuss the issues of montgomery without sounding racist so I am just not going to talk about it.  But I will say that montgomery is not somewhere that myself or anyone I associate with would want to live.

That's a funny question about what people think of Hville, I have never heard anyone put it down in that manner, or maybe at all...  I would say most people are pretty proud of the achievements of Huntsville.

Oh, and interestingly, despite the high education, it's a very conservative area, perhaps the most in Alabama among the larger cities.
Monkeytown? I've heard that term used repeatedly on PF, but did not derive a racist connotation.

So the southeast section of the state. A bunch of peanut farmers? What is the rep?

A lot of booger fans, old money, and southern gentlemen.  I havent spent a lot of time down there, but that's my take from people I've met.

Totally a racist term, it's so commonly used I guess people assume there's no way that's where it came from, or they forget, or maybe because  Lips Sealed

Beautiful country, probably a lot like Chattanooga area, seems sparsely populated to me. Anniston/gadsden seem have a lot of drug problems.

Lake Guntersville up there is my favorite lake in Alabama and I hope to buy a home there some day.

Interesting, how various areas of a state may have very contrasted philosophical/economic/political leanings. I guess the same can be true when you break down a city or county, section by section.

It's all IMO too.  Influencing my report is the various times in my life when I encountered the various areas and my interests, education level, and economic status at the time.   And then also the course of the world economy and world politics at the time.

I'm going to go install a couple of culvert pipes real quick.  I'll take pictures if I can find my phone.

I'd like to give you a hand, but that is probably NOT going to happen. Applause E-Cred

Mornin' guys. Happy Memorial Day. Catch a bunch, Chech. Again, I'm a little late in the conversation, but I used to live in Montgomery. In fact it's where I grew up. Montgomery was, and I'm sure still is, a s**t town. I moved my family from there to Jasmine Hills (Wetumpka) in 1987 and we loved it there. I've been all over the state of Alabama several times over and you guys are right; it has a very diverse culture. Oddly enough, the people from Alabama and the people from South Carolina are very much like each other. In all of my travels, I found that the nicest and friendliest people, that I have encountered, come from those 2 states.

I love the Scottsboro area of Lake Guntersville. It is beautiful. It is the prettiest part of the state. It does look a lot like Chattanooga with the wooded mountains. I would like to have a cabin on that lake one day.

Just out of curiosity, I googled an Alabama demographic map and this is what I found. It has nothing to do what our conversation is about, but I spewed diet Coke when I saw it. It was titled "Alabama voter map".
