welcome home Chech  Cool glad ya'll made the trip safely
I had my lady friend (wife) screaming today too , not at the ballgame though .

when I asked her to stop at the water tower she went a little to far for the shot I wanted
I asked her to please back up a few feet and she did , right in the perfect spot but in the roadway
I was adjusting for the shot and someone decided to come down the road behind us
that's when the screaming started  Shocked   I got the shot anyway  Cool

get some rest , you sound like your as tired as I was this time yesterday ....

Hey, thanks.  Sorry I missed your message at first.  Was this one the water tower on I-10, along Hwy 90, or on the Grand Bay - Wilmer road that runs N-S?  They all have watermelons.

it's actually north of there ... behind Leroy Hill's mansion  , on Jim McNeil Loop
we were up there looking at some property and boy they have lots of cows around there  Shocked

the guy that was showing the property let me see these four big lakes not far from the tower
they are full of bass ... nice bass ... yeah , I'm think about dusting off a spinner bait  Grin

my wife asked me "why in the world do you want a picture of that water tower ?"
I just shrugged and said , "you've never rode a Honda 50 to Grand Bay before have you ?"   Grin
now she thinks I need help  Wink

Thanks.  Now she thinks we're all crazy.

That's the well (and tower) that I visited with Mr. McGregor (top guy at Water Board) last year.  The well was being cleaned and reworked.  I didn't remember that the tower there had a watermelon on it too.  When I was visiting there last December they were painting the one on GB-Wilmer Road (Hwy 11?).  That's the one I thought you'd photographed.

I'm rambling, sorry.

No, the one pictured here is in the back of a pecan orchard, behind Waffle House.  There is a new one farther north; it was being painted last year.  This one has a water-treatment facility beneath it.  I got a tour of it.

This is more interesting.

By the way Smitty, I'm still in the "very interested" stage of helping you with your business. If B'ham is included, you REALLY have your work cut out for you. Huh?

I figure I will travel up to 2 or 3 hours for a full day of work (with a surcharge over a certain mileage), which will cover most of the state.  Stay interested, this is real.

I was thinking about this, if we put jobs into "milk runs" I could travel much further and save the client err double bill on travel.

I may have secured funding for the tractor.

Now, is it worth the extra penny to get the John Deere or will a Kubota suffice?  I know bamawv likes terramite, but there isnt a dealer around here.  We may have a Massey Ferguson dealer I can go look at.

Mornin' peeps. My brother in law works for John Deere. He claims it's the best and worth the money.

I am thinking I need something compact with at least 50 HP.

Catfish can live in about any mudhole. I visited a ranch in Texas that had a large bug zapper (with the bottom removed) hanging over the catfish pond. When the bugs get zapped they drop in the water and feed the fish.

I dont like catfish, but that's what I am hearing.  I just got to the other side of it for the first time.  It sort of lagoons out down the fence line.  I stopped because there is a huge oak, like the biggest oak I've ever seen down there and it has some dead limbs that are ready to fall and kill someone.

Smitty, I have a bit of expertise here.  The advice about consulting the local Aub (i.e., county agent) was correct.  So much of what you stock depends on the depth, water source, and expanse of the pond that we can't help much.

Since you don't like catfish it hardly matters, but generally a pond will be muddy if it holds catfish.  A person can look at a farm pond and tell if it has catfish.  If you don't want a muddy pond, don't stock catfish.  Beyond that you'll need a diversity of fish; start with sunfish (like Bluegills) and bass.  Crappie will overpopulate unless you stock the new variety (triploid crappie).  A friend of mine worked on the triploids; they're sterile, so they can't overpopulate.  A common problem in ponds is crappie that get smaller with every generation due to crowding.  BTW, DO NOT let them talk you into stocking Asian carp for algae control.  Keep them out.  They're worse than geese for nutrient overloading.

Enjoy.
