Six shot in Cottondale, Tuscaloosa Sheriff to hold press conference

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office has announced a 1 p.m. press conference today to discuss the details of a Friday night incident in Cottondale in which six people were shot.

In an emailed statement, Captain Loyd Baker of the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit said the incident occurred at an apartment complex but did not specify which one.

Baker gave no other details about the shooting in his statement, including condition of the victims or the time at which the shooting occurred. The office is deferring all questions to Sheriff Ted Sexton during the press conference.

Thanks Coach for posting this.  Folks we as law enforcement and decent citizens are losing the war on violence.  I have been trying not to comment after the tragic loss of another brave warrior in Mobile.  I could add tons but I'm to close.  Prayers for all the tragic loss of life and to the families that was suffering.

Wish I could say good afternoon guys, but seems like we have had too much tragedy in the last 12-16 hours. My office is only a couple of miles away from the MPD, when I heard what happened I was very shaken. Now this tragedy in Cottondale. Unfortunately #1 Crimson is right, and that nothing short of God's intervention will turn things around now I think. Many, many prayers to families, friends and others affected by the dual tragedies.

Armed intruders disrupt birthday party in Cottondale, 6 people shot

Three of the six people shot received life-threatening injuries.

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ted Sexton described what authorities know so far at a press conference this afternoon.

Both of the intruders are accounted for.

The injured suspect is also a 23-year-old man, and he is in stable condition.

Authorities have yet to talk to all the victims, Sexton said, and the investigation continues.

The party-goers injured are: 

A 17-year-old male shot in the chest, in critical condition; 

An 18-year-old male, shot in the side, in stable condition;

An 18-year-old female, shot in the abdomen, in critical condition; 

An 18-year-old male, shot in the arm, in stable condition; 

A 20-year-old male, shot in the leg, treated and released Friday night.

It was a good win but those guys are about to kill some of us winning like that, but I'll take any win not matter how. It was amazing how many fans left at the end of regulation and then more left after the first ot, can't figure that out. The cheerleaders really struggle trying to get the crowd into the game, but the players really respond to the crowd when they do get into it.

That's what got to me last night was the lack of crowd noise. Every now and then you could hear a "defense" chant, but that was about it.

That's what got to me last night was the lack of crowd noise. Every now and then you could hear a "defense" chant, but that was about it. 

I think CMG killed the spirit in the basketball fans and it's going to take some time to get it going again. There was a good size crowd there considering the heavy rain started about an hour before the game. Also, I think a lot of the fans are treating basketball like football and when Bama does lose a game they think the season is over. If Bama can make it to the "Big Dance" this year, that could change a lot of that.
