Catfish can live in about any mudhole. I visited a ranch in Texas that had a large bug zapper (with the bottom removed) hanging over the catfish pond. When the bugs get zapped they drop in the water and feed the fish.

I dont like catfish, but that's what I am hearing.  I just got to the other side of it for the first time.  It sort of lagoons out down the fence line.  I stopped because there is a huge oak, like the biggest oak I've ever seen down there and it has some dead limbs that are ready to fall and kill someone.

Smitty, I have a bit of expertise here.  The advice about consulting the local Aub (i.e., county agent) was correct.  So much of what you stock depends on the depth, water source, and expanse of the pond that we can't help much.

Since you don't like catfish it hardly matters, but generally a pond will be muddy if it holds catfish.  A person can look at a farm pond and tell if it has catfish.  If you don't want a muddy pond, don't stock catfish.  Beyond that you'll need a diversity of fish; start with sunfish (like Bluegills) and bass.  Crappie will overpopulate unless you stock the new variety (triploid crappie).  A friend of mine worked on the triploids; they're sterile, so they can't overpopulate.  A common problem in ponds is crappie that get smaller with every generation due to crowding.  BTW, DO NOT let them talk you into stocking Asian carp for algae control.  Keep them out.  They're worse than geese for nutrient overloading.

Enjoy.

thanks.  I am not interested in nasty catfish.  I guess I should have an idea what's in there already before I start stocking?

Btw, that picture sort of looks like it.

Good morning everyone!

Hope you had a great weekend. Very busy here. Got a call Saturday afternoon from my brother in law. They had decided to come over for the remainder of the weekend. YIKES! So I had 1.5 hours to get everything ready for company!  Shocked
Had a great visit - even though it was a short one!

Here's hoping for a wonderful week of Alabama football spring practice and a wonderful week for everyone!

Smitty, you probably have lots of fish in the pond.  Is it fed by a spring or creek?  Does the outlet go through a spillway or stand pipe?  Just trying to see what fish you'd likely have.  People often think they have no fish, because they haven't stocked.  Fish swim upstream during floods to occupy new habitats, so many farm ponds get fish without stocking.

B12 shots are popular now.  Seems everyone I know is pushing them.  I take the pills, but seems I hear someone mention the shots almost daily.

Well whatever is wrong with my back and whatever else is eating my B12 up. I have to take a shot every week for 12 weeks and then once a month for rest of my life or ever how long it takes. I stay so tired all the time. RTR!

I have chosen my weapon (I am pretty certain).

45 HP kubota, 4wd, loader and 6' heavy duty bush hog and trailer.

With john deere you just dont get as much tractor, and they have to recoup all that marketing from somewhere....

+1 on the John Deere marketing.  They have a great product but dollar for dollar I think you can get more tractor with another brand.

Don't panic, it's not you.  B12 is being stuck into everyone over 60 years.  Helps energy (read the web about it).  Physicians are prescribing it for life for everyone.  Next visit they'll push the testosterone shots (no kidding).

Your back?  Not related to B12.  We were better off on all fours.
