Currently right at 10" here. Flooding all over town with many roads closed. The creek beside my daughter's house is out of it's banks and threatening her house. They are safe and dry here with us. Still no relief in sight from the rain.

What a contrast in weather from one end of the state to the other. It has been a beautiful day in North Alabama. In fact, I have the sprinkler going to water my grass. We need a little of that rain.

You guys stay safe.

The first flash flood emergency was declared by the National Weather Service for southern Mobile County, Ala., late Saturday morning.

Radar estimates indicate 12 to 18 inches of rain have fallen near Tillmans Corner, just southwest of Mobile.  Reports indicate several water rescues have taken place in this area since late Saturday morning.
Background

The Mobile airport recorded 5.81 inches by 4 p.m. Central time, establishing a new record for June 9 and becoming the fifth wettest June day in Mobile weather records, with half the day still remaining.

A dam failed on a 14-acre private lake in Mobile County, stranding residents in their homes.  Several roads were reported underwater across Mobile and Baldwin counties.

We  are currently right at 13 inches of rain, but the rain has lightened up considerably for the time being. Much of Pensacola is under water, along with many cars. Several houses, especially in the downtown and West Pensacola areas are flooded. We are still very concerned about my daughter's house, which she rents, and the landlord may sandbag it as waters are continuing to rise. It's been a heck of a day. The bad news is rain is predicted here through Monday.

Pensacola:  Historic Rainfall

The second flash flood emergency was issued early Saturday afternoon for Escambia County, Fla., including the Pensacola area.  Pensacola International Airport recorded 12.99 inches of rain Saturday as of 4 p.m. local time, the second-highest daily total on record for Pensacola.

The last time Pensacola officially received more rain in a single calendar day was October 5, 1934, with 15.29 inches.

A state of emergency was declared Saturday afternoon for Escambia County.  By early Saturday afternoon, water was entering the first floor of Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.  Officials have requested residents to "stay home and not drive unless necessary."

"We're anticipating several more inches," said Cam Johnson of the Escambia County Emergency Management Agency.  "I've lived in this area my whole life and I've seen roads and areas flooded that I've never seen flooded before."

Water was reported entering homes near Perdido Bay.  Nearby Pensacola Naval Air Station recorded 12.60 inches of rain between midnight and 4 p.m. Saturday.  Radar estimates indicated up to 20 inches of rainfall over the Perdido Key area.

Unbelievable day. National ABC news says we are to receive another foot and a half in rain through Monday. I'll verify that with Fox before I believe it.  Undecided

I just went out in the boat to catch bait.  If needed, those of you along the coast, I can be there in 29 hours.   Tongue

Hope everyone is okay!

Thanks for your concern, guys. The rain has stopped for now and looking at the radar, it looks much less ominous at the moment. I hope the forecast is wrong for tomorrow. 100 % chance of more rain. Today was the 2nd largest amount of rainfall in a 24 hour period in Pensacola's history.

LOL.
No, but a story.  I took the young snapper and grunts we caught, put them in a bait bucket, and extended it off the pier in water about 5-6' deep.  They will stay alive there until we need them tomorrow.
BUT, about dark I noticed the bucket moving, and walked out to investigate.  Two Nurse Sharks, one just a baby and one moderately big, were nosing the bucket in an attempt to get at the bait.  They kept bumping it, and it'd tilt over, then right itself.  The bait stayed safe, but the sharks terrorized the little fish for an hour.  The little guys should really hate it tomorrow when they get to meet Mr. Grouper.
