SMITTY PLEASE LOOK
HERE

LOL thank you.  I know it sounds scary, but I am very experienced with cutting down trees, this was just my biggest and deadest.  I am not sure I could have done it another way.  I think a rope in the top would have just broken off the top branches.

Anyway, good news is it's on the ground where it's supposed to land, and no one got hurt, and I dont have any more of those out there.

Next time I will pull it down or hire someone, i promise.  Embarrassed

The Napa pacle here used to charge just $3 to sharpen blades, but went to $10.  I just buy new ones now unless I want to entertain myself with the files.  I'm not very adept at sharpening, I guess, because they are seldom satisfactory.

Yes, hot.

I suck at sharpening too, and I have had a lot of practice.  Basically it takes me 20 minutes to get it sharp and it lasts about 1/2 a day or less, while the stihl guys sharpen all 4 of my chains in 10 minutes for 12 bucks and they last a full day at least if I am careful with them.

Those old loggers were tough as nails. In the old pictures, none weighed more than 160-180lbs. They sometimes walked every morning for miles before starting a 12 hour day, then walked home. The logging camps had cookies by the oak barrels and each guy got 1/2 a pie with supper. We had the old CCC (Conservation Corp) depression era guys, working with the convicts. Pure steel.

Why did they walk?  Car-pool?  Bicycle?

Few people had cars. Loggers worked for company script.

No roads mostly. They cut through the woods, some by horse. They built the first major roads through this area and when I first started driving, some of the roads were still one lane dirt or gravelled. If you met another car,one of you had to run in the ditch. Then we would all get the ditch car back on the road.

Just a quick good morning to everybody. I've got a lot to do to get the SC condo in shape to rent/sale. Was on the road to come here so I missed the game last night. Looks like they blew out the 'Canes. Smitty, be careful out there buddy. Don't hurt yourself. Looks like you're getting plenty of practice for the business. Morning #'s to all. Have a great day.

Reminded me of the guys I met in Belize years ago.  They were chicleros (tapped chicle trees - Sapodilla - for sap to make chewing gum).  Once all gum was from the Sapodilla (hence the name Chiclets for the gum bits). These guys worked deep in the forests for weeks to months at a time.  I managed to buy one of their machetes and heavy-leather scabbards for my collection.

See machete in scabbard on guy's hip?

I might go pick up a rake and a box blade.  Probably only get one or the other.

Is county line stuff any good?  That's what they sell at tractor supply.
