Just saw that Geraldine Ferraro died yesterday.  I had a knife with her name on it - political ad.  It took forever to sell.  I was surprised when I guy selected it.  Then he said, "Think I can get that name off it with kerosene?"

Multiple Myeloma - RIP

True, no disrespect.
The knife was a Case all-metal, small pen knife.  Good knife, except I don't like etched blades or advertisements on handles.

THis is what I need.

Didn't you say your rear end (tractor) was coming off the ground picking up cut logs?

That was a whole tree that was 30' tall and 3' around.  And I still dragged it to the fire pile (100 feet or so).
Yeah. You'll quickly get a feel for your limitations. JMO, but I would try to go with what equip you have for now, and then let the market plea the case for more equipment.

Oh, I agree, plus that thing is out of my price range, I was just browsing everythingattachments.com and drooling.

My next implement will be a woods backhoe, and that's going to take some saving up.

Actually, I might get a box blade before that, maybe.  Mostly because they are affordable and I need practice with one, and I could use it around the property, the girl wants a jogging trail.

What do yall know about welders/welding?

I have a welder, it works as a generator, but the brushes arent good enough to weld.  Worth repairing?  It's huge, it was my dads railroad welder.

I have welded a total of about 10 minutes and I suck.  Is it somewhat intuitive or should I take a class at the community college?  Appearance is not my concern, just sticking things together.

TIA.

Definitely.  A box blade is as valuable as a bucket.  It makes landscaping easy, and is great for snow removal, driveway repairs, and much more.

Stick welding has rods that you clip into anodes for welding. Tig/mig are wire welding.

Sorry to drive you nuts this morning WV...

Any tips on trailering?  I was thinking a would get two chain rachets and some chain and figure out a way to chain to the trailer, do you think straps would be better?

Stick welding is easy but you need to watch over someone's shoulder first. Then practice. The rods your dad owned are old and affected by moisture. Try drying them in oven or running a torch on them. Practice on scrap. Too much to teach in a comment box, but I'll bet I can help with pointers if you can manage to get started. Remember your work needs to be grounded.

Are you more interested in the welder or generator?

You can buy a little 110V cracker box wire welder pretty cheap. Wire welding is the way to go IMO. The cracker box is light and you can move it around easy and does not require a long led. It will not double as a generator.

You have to be careful putting money into an older machine. Once you get it fixed something else breaks down.

I say straps with ratchets, or you'll scratch off your paint job. I set my parking brake and tie one strap on, just to make it look official in case a cop drives by. You should learn to bind and chock it properly. Try to distribute most weight over your axles.
