SC, do you have the backyard Taj Mahal built yet?

I can't get out there and do much during the week.  So I have been thinking about how I am going to keep a big gust of wind from blowing the whole thing down.  Thinking

The key is to have some significant structure underground.  Dirt ways about a ton per cubic yard, so if I can have about 10 yards of dirt (total) sitting on top of my footings I think it would take a tornado to pull the posts out of the ground.   Undecided

I see this going into football season at this pace. That will be a problem.... at least the kids will think it is a problem when you are not out there working.

You make a good point.  Thinking

I am going to have to kick it up a notch.

I have a similar problem with my wife. We got new windows throughout and hardwood flooring in a couple of rooms. They led to some interior painting and new roman shades, etc. She still wants the den and master bedroom painted. It looks so good I am a willing partner. However, I told her this has to get done by the end of August because my Saturday's are reserved for football. It's not negotiable.

The finished product at SC's house?

Those are nothing but straw huts somehow wedged between tree limbs. The project SC has going on costs about $15K and will be on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens once he is finished.

Unfortunately you are probably right about that part.  Embarrassed

All I can say is don't let your kids watch Treehouse Masters on TV.  Especially if you always wanted a treehouse when you were a kid.  I will admit it though, we are all having a blast.

I built a treehouse when I was a kid one time.  Actually I can think of 3 different projects, although the first 2 were nothing more than scrap pieces of plywood I found laying across forked branches in some tall pine trees.  The first one I had to nail scrap 2 x 4's to the trunk to make a ladder to get up in there.  The second one had plenty of good climbing limbs, so I didn't need a ladder.  I used to climb up in there and sit on that plywood and do my homework.  The 3rd one was the most sophisticated by far.  I found a stack of 4 or 5 old shipping pallets that I hoisted up into the tree.  There were several other attempts that never got off the ground due to lack of resources.  I could usually find some scrap pieces of lumber, but I always had a hard time coming up with nails.

Well the work week is over, now back outside to dig some more.  I have to get to a good stopping point in 43 days!  There's no way I will be able to finish it by then, not at my pace.  I have too much help.  Laughing

I got lucky when my girls were little. We had a standard swing set. A neighbor was moving and I bought an almost new fort with big plastic slide and fireman's pole along with a heavy duty swing set made from 4 x 4 and 2 x 6. It was one of those kits you can buy from Lowe's. The only maintenance it ever needed was replacing the tarp material roof every few years. My kids and all their friends loved it. I tore the fort down a few years ago. We still have the swing set with a 6' porch swing on it.

There are a lot of memories in that fort and swing. SC, you will not regret the $15K investment on your tree house. You will get the Dad of the Year Award... from your kids and in the long run they are the only ones that matter.  Cheesy

Good morning and a tip of the cup to each. I hope all of you have some good plans for the weekend. I got an invite to go fishing at a private lake this afternoon, if mother nature doesn't interfer. My friend has to take 1,000 lbs of bass out of his lake, over populated,  and said he needed some help and there's nothing better than helping a friend in need. Wink

Sounds like fun. Is there a lot of big bass or has the over population kept them small?

Now that's what I call an invitation. I'm currently in Louisville, Ky. Yesterday was for business, this weekend for golf with a friend that lives here. It's hotter here than in P'cola.
