Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board went missing nine hours ago.  I was on that flight 23 months ago.

I just turned on the TV and saw that news.  My first thoughts were of you.
Now I'm praying for those aboard.
Apparently the plane went down in the sea off Vietnam.
...
Get you some honey while your there, Chech.

Tupelo Honey?  Thanks.
Good luck on your lies today, 2.

As long as they're dry, they'll be good ones. We're playing at water plagued Tiger Point today. The other lies I'll save for 19th hole.

Mrs. 2 and I are heading that way Thursday. Can you keep it in the 60's while we're there?  Cheesy

I did fly out of Malaysia yesterday but took a direct flight from Penang.  Usually I fly Malaysia Airlines with a layover in Kuala Lumpur.  If I had yesterday I would very likely have been in the terminal with some of the passengers.

Something doesn't seem right though.  The plane was cruising at 35,000 ft and suddenly disappears without warning and without a distress call from the pilots.  Vietnamese military have said they have located the emergency beacon but Malaysian officials are saying that's not true.  China released a passenger list of Chinese but two of the names were hidden.

Wow! This could get interesting. Thanks for the update, Phil.

Asked whether terrorism was suspected, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said, "We are looking at all possibilities, but it is too early to make any conclusive remarks."

Foreign ministry officials in Italy and Austria said the names of two nationals from those countries listed on the flight's manifest matched passports reported stolen in Thailand.

Italy's Foreign Ministry said the Italian man who was listed as being a passenger, Luigi Maraldi, was traveling in Thailand and was not aboard the plane. It said he reported his passport stolen last August.

Austria's Foreign Ministry confirmed that a name listed on the manifest matched an Austrian passport reported stolen two years ago in Thailand. It said the Austrian was not on the plane, but would not confirm the person's identity.

what kind of security do they have? Why would they have allowed them to board the plane with stolen passports?

An aviation expert on Fox News expects foul play. The plane was at it's safest point of the flight.

This is a terrible tragedy that is beginning to look like a terrorist plot.

I'm not sure if there's an international system where a passport stolen in one country would automatically show up as stolen in another.  When I was in China I heard that a stolen U.S. passport could go for as much as $10,000.  Security in SE Asia is much more lax than the U.S.

The fact that there two stolen passports on this flight does raise a lot of questions.

Malaysia is a Muslim country though so Muslim terrorists wouldn't make much sense.  Separatists from the western China province of Xinjiang did stage a knife attack in the city of Kunming last week that left 29 dead and 100+ injured.

The plane ran into another one on the ground a couple of years ago and had a good piece of a wing tip badly damaged. NBC said it had been repaired or replaced.

Good (early) morning.  Coffee

Thanks for the news update on the downed plane.
The only news I got yesterday was from a conspiracy nut at the gun show.  Talk about squirrely!

Heavens, it's 48 degrees outside this morning.  Foggy too?

Morning Chech.

The plane case is getting more weird.  Now 40+ hours since disappearance and no sign of the plane or wreckage.  It just doesn't seem possible that a 777 could crash into the ocean, or land, without leaving a massive amount of evidence.  It seems almost certain at this point that terrorism is involved, but no one yet knows what happened or where the plane is.

Good morning Phil, Chech, J & OT. The plane situation is really intriguing. I'm with you, Phil. I know they found an oil slick, but if it crashed, there would be debris. Very strange, indeed.

It's 51 degrees here and headed toward the upper 60's. Spring? Is that you?
