Yes, the Big Ten is dead.  Can't say I'll miss it!

The Big Ten needed Saturday. It needed it bad.

Every year there's a weekend when the nation collectively turns its eyes to college sports' wealthiest conference to see if it will factor into the national championship football conversation. Lately, every year the Big Ten offers evidence to turn away.

It's like Groundhog Day in college football except the Big Ten is desperately trying to escape the SEC's shadow, not its own.

Condolences to Bandit & ATU on this week's pickems. I'm thinking that totem poll is particularly heavy this morning. 

It's not like this is new.  The Big Ten and Notre Dame are hyped preseason every year, ranked up there in the polls, and fall flat on their arses.  Usually they play cupcake schedules (Navy, Army, Pitt, etc), then lose badly in the bowls, complaining afterwards that the cold weather precluded their bowl preparation.

Morning gents. I have to admit that I don't know what I enjoyed more yesterday: the Tide getting win #2, or the Fighting Urbans falling on their face at home. So, if you are keeping score:

Iowa squeaks by Ball State

The best win of the day for the Big 10 was newcomer Maryland beating South Florida

Guess only Breddy (among our families) had a really good pick-'em.  I may have misjudged a few of my 'picks' this week. 



And a boo to LSU's freshman, Leonard Fournette, for making a Heisman pose after scoring against Sam Houston State.

Speaking of Heisman candidates, I hope Bama continues to go to Amari Cooper as they have in the first two games. I think he could get his name on that list if he can continue to do as well as he has so far.

Agree, he deserves kudos by a Heisman trip.
Some may complain that Cooper was allowed to stay in the game, but:
1. It rewards him for his hard work during reception-drought games;
2. It helps recruiting (every top receiver will want to be like Coop);
3. It gives experience to Coker (working with the 1st team);
4. We enjoyed it!

My daughter gave me two tickets to the Florida and Miss St games for my birthday. My wife told me to go pick out a new driver. My birthday is not until Friday. This is going to be a good week.
