Did we all have our fiber this morning??

Story that is pertinent to our grumpy, racist friend:

My nephew used to work at Lowe's.  He quit after several years, and went back to school.  I was with him in Lowe's last year, and he confessed that when he worked there they had a game they'd play.  They'd see which one (of the boys) could go the longest without helping a customer.  They'd walk the other way, pretend to be on the cell, or just motion to customers that they were helping someone else.  I haven't been back to Lowe's since.
These folks sit around the break room swapping stories about how stupid the customers are, as a mechanism for coping with their simple realities.

Actually, I think they were just lazy and bored.  For what it's worth, Lowe's is better than HD.  A friend of mine teaches at a Community College.  When the new HP opened he told me, "Seems they hired every flunky who dropped out of the CC."

At least the workers at Lowe's seem to know lumber, tools, and their products.  Not so at HD, in my experience.

No one bothered me at lowes, one guy asked me if I was finding everything alright, that was it.   That's how I like it.  Old dude at home depot wasnt trying to help me, he didnt like it I was going through all the wood and didnt want to get another pallet down, which I was eyeballing.
I pick up the call phones at those stores. They won't kick you out. Ask for a manager.

Understood.  But at least at Lowe's they know what the merchandise is for.  At HD when you ask where to find the sandpaper, they show you some circular discs (for the disc sanders) and say, "That must be all we have", not knowing that most of the sheets are in the paint section.

You ask for nippers (tool) and they say, "Fingernail nippers?"

Increasingly, I find people that are just in the way of the rest of us. 50% of wage earners pay no tax, but scream for more services. Don't get me started on the welfare/unemployed/disablity scammers. It would seem with 8-9% unemployment the service would be better and readily available. But instead I find people busy making excuses for their circumstance, and looking for government to bail them out. SIAP.

I agree.  I have a theory that its a progression and is a large part of the economic issues.  I have been a government contractor.  I know why a hammer costs 1000 bucks, it's because you have to talk about it for 2 weeks, then track it forever.  I have been on projects with 100 million dollar budgets where I couldnt get an item because of tracking or department conflicts or approval.  Literally I was once told not to buy a hammer if I could borrow one.  I digress, but my point is that I think it will get worse before it gets better and it will take the do-ers to save the economy.

That's pretty accurate, but I find when they dont know what I am talking about they start asking me what I need it for...

Me - Do you guys have any hand truck tires?

HD dude - Uhh, what do you need it for?

Me - nevermind

If you think the average customer service rep is bad, imagine them all unionized, as they have been trying to do with WalMart. Take the woman at DMV, stuffing a $1.69 bag of chips in her mouth and washing it down with a Big Gulp, while explaining to everyone in line, why they are in the wrong line-- then multiply by 10.

Please go easy on the politics.  I'm still dreading the final push on my tax filing.
