BTW, even though it won't affect Pell City (laugh), there's quite a wall of thunderboomers approaching.  Stretched across western Arky now, and will be here in Mississippi at daylight.

Much older than you.  Tongue
No, really they grow fast.  In an open area like that, probably 25-35 years.

I was looking at the predictions and they indicate it will storm all day.   Angry

Maybe just the different climates, but I say double that estimate.

Plant Bradford Pears or Silver Maples, they both grow fast and you can have a nice tree in like 5-7 years, sooner with the Bradford Pear. Also, Sugar Maple and and Red Maple. I have planted them and in a few years have had beautiful trees with lots of shade.

I agree that those could be older (I see the fat trunks), but they grow that tall in 25 years, then they spread out.  I'm estimating that based on the ones in the Duke Gardens and the Ole Miss campus.  They are fast-growing trees.

I agree with the maples, but the Bradfords look too much like WalMart to me.  They've been over-planted.

Silver Maples will have you out picking up limbs every time the wind blows.

Bradford Pears stink like the devil but are gorgeous in bloom. SC is full of them.

The Bradfords are popular because they grow so fast, have nice blooms in spring, and give a yard some fast shade and don't bad mouth Wal-Mart.

I never had that problem with them. The biggest negative I saw with Silver Maples was the roots can run along the surface making it impossible to mow around the tree. It also makes them suseptible to blowing over in a very heavy wind. If you trim them properly, they shouldn't blow over. The one I had survived many heavy windstorms.

OKAY.  But it's not WM that I dislike, it's the overplanting of Bradford Pears.  At least the new hybrids don't split as easily as older ones; first sign of ice and they're on the ground.  And I love the fall colors they have.  They just don't look like yard trees to me anymore.

BTW, I planted 2 Yoshino Cherries in my yard this spring.  And I cut down 2 Junipers today that were too big (near the house).

You should have e-mailed those to Smitty.
