Kind of a vacuous look, huh?

Dirt work, I see.  I'll have to wake up a bit to understand your plan.

Going to attempt to cut out of that hill a leaving a vertical wall.

You mean cut into the hill to make a level pacle, leaving a ramp ("vertical wall")?

No ramp, I took out the word ramp.  But yeah, cut out the side of the hill to level with the parking and my yard is beyond the photo.  Leaving a rock wall (hopefully) up the the level of the back.  If that doesnt work I may build a retaining wall.

On the other side, that's where the drive goes up to the level of the back.  It dropped off on the right and that's my building, going to make that road level out with the building up the property line sloping down with the existing road.

So here is my new project, as if I didnt have enough going on around here.

As you see here, I have already started when I took these pictures, but I am taking down that hill.  I plan to leave it vertical (if possible) and extend my back yard out and add a parking space.

Here is what I am doing with the dirt (for now).  I am building up that road to the back and making it wider, and leveling by my storage building there.  This photo is funny because it shows my ridiculous neighbor and all his crap lined up along the property line.   As you might guess, the property line is just on the other side of that building where it drops off and you see the boat, trailer, ford ranger, basketball goal, bicycle, etc all lined up.

Mornin' guys. Hope everyone made it through the storms ok. Didn't even rain here in P'cola. Smitty, I'm guessing you decided not to put that dirt where you had pondered during our visit?

There will be no shortage of dirt coming out of the hill.  Where did I mention?  SOme needs to go on the road, some in the front yard,  and then the back can take all I can get filling in around the creek and the low spots.  Shaving down the hills is quite an effort.  I should take an update photo back there though, I have done A LOT of grading.

You had mentioned since you weren't really a pool person, filling the pool up with that dirt.

Oh yea...  Good idea... The problem is, there is still some debate around here about how to handle that situation, plus, we don't want to hurt the frogs.

So now the secret is out.  I have a vinyl lined pool that has been in disrepair since I bought the property.  I havent touched it and it acts like a pond with a full eco system.  Originally I had planned on fixing it, but nowadays I think about filling it up.

I know all about the frogs. My house is very close to a creek plus I have a pool. We have frogs everywhere. My wife hates 'em and occasionally asks me how to get rid of them. I have to remind her that we need them to keep the insect population down, plus I like 'em.

I like them too.   The noise doesn't bother me at all.  I am not joking, we will probably go through the effort to relocate them to the pond before we do anything to the pool.  They have been there for years.

Gave you and Chech # for early Saturday morning posting. I'll give you another later for the frog relocation effort.  Applause E-Cred

Thanks, if anyone has any genius ideas for the hole other than just filling it with dirt let me know.

Buddy of mine had an old pool (also filled with frogs; nowhere near a pond).  For the greatly reduced price of a new pool, he was able to get the pool folks to put in a new liner and new pump.  If your concrete around the pool is in good condition, and the plumbing beneath it good, your new pool could be cheap.  His gets lots of use after a hot day of work in the yard.  Great was to cool off, plus it's an attractive part of the yard.

I've had some pretty cheap quotes to fix it, all less than 3500, but that's just a new liner.  I hate liner pools.  I also hate the square wal-mart pools,  I envision a peanut shaped concrete pool like I had growing up, with a hot tub on the end...
