This?

yeah, but it wont be granite around here.

What's the 57?  I thought geologists worked with the Krumbein scale (if spelled right).

We use USCS

3/4 to 1" is #57 rock.

Pretty ambitious plans for today.

Right there at the grass line I will install a french drain about 50' long to be continued later.  Then blade it all out.  Take back the cliff so the height of the cut is more level.  Take down the chain link fence and extend the wood fence to the cliff.

If I cant get rock I will have to wait to top the trench til tomorrow.  I have enough to put a bed down for the pipe.

Here is the hearty palm I planted, and remember the tub I found by the pond?  THe girl took it over and it's going to be a planter somewhere around here, she sanded and painted it.

Chech, you have any advice on moving trees?  I have an apple tree on that hill I would like to try and save.

Top right

The tub... guess we aren't consultants about that, huh?
The palm is interesting.  The species are extremely difficult to identify in the tropics, but only a few can live in your area.  Sabal Palm is the favorite name.  They can get big.

Best advice: move it with an axe.

The tag on the palm says it gets 80' tall.  I dont believe that.  I am not sure it's going to live either.  The tag says good to -1, the girl at home depot said they live here just fine.  We shall see.  If it dies, the hole is already dug.

If a blue tub full of flowers is all it takes to make the girl happy then I am down with it.

Sorry.  The apple has lots of wide, shallow roots.  Even with your extensive machinery, and considering the time of year, it's not worth the effort (probably won't survive).

Leave it there or cover your eyes as you remove it.

I know.  But I wanted to practice tree moving as a potential service.  I have a weeping willow in the front yard I want to move also.

Ok, makes sense.  I dont want to go through the effort if it's going to die, plus the apples arent edible I dont know what's wrong with it.

1. To 80' in Florida, not in Pell City.
2. They can live to single digits, but not guaranteed.  With that fence to help block the wind, it'll be okay there.  Should survive longer than us.  But it might drop seeds (if pollinated) that pop up all over the pacle.  My buddy in Grand Bay (who I've mentioned) has a yard full of pop-ups.
3. I love bathtub planters.  You can get it refinished with new enamel, ya know.  Blue is good, I like blue.

This species is more forgiving than an apple, but you're a month late deciding to move it.  Sooner the better if you must.  It'll be hard to keep alive too, depending on obvious factors.

If you can move 2/3 of the root sytem in tact, it'll probably stand the transfer. On small trees, if you take enough root ball, it may not know it is being moved--unlike the neighbor we don't like.

That project can wait.  Best to move trees in the winter/early spring?
