btw, I dont know how far I will get.  But 8 more yards of rock will be here "first thing", should be enough to finish the french maid you love so much and also gravel the new parking spot and add some to the old one.

But ...  There is some discussion about taking the wall back another 10' or so.  I am hesitant before we know how bad it's going to erode, since that will double the cost of the retaining wall.  But I typically get out voted.

Also, yesterday we filed the paperwork to expand the business to an LLC.  The girl will be 51% owner.  So we are disadvantaged female owned.  Poor us, we need government help.   Cheesy
FIFY

So she can fire you? That is not the type of saavy business decision making that will make you bush hog king of the southeast.

Plus the strength of the wall needed to hold back the hillside increases greater than the sum of its parts

No, she cant fire me, and it makes a big difference.  wont change anything from a business management perspective, she's had the lead on that all along.

The wall wont fall.  It just may erode and crumble.  There is very little soil.  It goes into clay layers that become increasingly hard and on the south end it is rock.  (left looking across the yard at the wall).
I am having to wrap my brain around the difference in soil. In WV, that dirt wall would not last a month, --maybe a little longer since the hillside is sodded. So if heavy clay does not absorb water but instead deflects it, how does rain water permeate to the aquifer?

very slowly.  Stop thinking about it in absolutes.  Water WILL drain from my yard.  It just takes 2 weeks or more.  That is all mountain up behind me, it keeps going up.  We see water coming out between the clay layers, ontop of the clay and under the soil.  There are also holes here and there that run water all the time.

So the water that is falling on the mountain behind me permeates to different levels.  I would imagine some of it makes it to the water table, but most flows underground.  There is a creek about 1/4 mile north of me, that's where it is headed.  My property is on a geosyncline, I can explain that further if you need.

BTW, nothing is sodded, grass just grows here.  Sod farms are all over st. clair county

I can sympathize with her. My hair is beginning to thin, as well.

I really thought one of you two would appreciate the clean-out.  I've never heard of a clean out for a french drain, but seemed like a no-brainer.

Thinning hair?  Most of my friends have none.  BTW, I need a haircut.

Yes, I like the French Drain cleanout.  I don't know that you'll ever need it.  And it might take a fire hose to clean it, but it's imaginative.  Shouldn't it be self cleaning?

It's 71 degrees outside here, and it's VERY windy.  WTH?  Another round of tornadoes?

Just being the devil's advocate, but how will you snake though mud should it clog? The electric snake will tear your flex pipe up. Water hose?

Yeah, that was the idea.  Basically, I wanted to be able to know that is the problem if it is clogged, and then try and wash it out.  At the very least, it will allow me to identify the issue.  I am a little concerned that now that the trench is covered, that there will be standing surface water issues.  I tried to just use good chert to backfill.  But we'll see.  That's another purpose for the shallow drain area, if I have major issues, I can build up the yard a little and make that a sump.  I think about it a lot, I promise.

Isn't that the refinery that blew up?  I did some contract work with them.

Hmm.. Not sure, definitely not while I was there.  We did that job, some wells onsite, and pulled some old USTs there, that was all I did.  I spent a lot more time at Vinvale, gardenia sumps, pyramid lake, Conaco - Santa Monica (ask me about that one, LOL), and a lot of ARCO retail.

While we are on the water hose subject:

I had my culvert, 40' corrugated steel running under the drive entrance, plugged up. I ended up donating $ to the VFD to bring the water truck to avail of the high pressure. But since, I have been trying to think of a 1-2-3 quick way to clean out culverts. You can drive around and see where mud and gravel have washed across the road after storms to spot potential customers. The alternative is to dig them up and shake them out, which normally leads to damage, let alone the huge inconvenience.

Maybe it's the eyes.  She does look familiar, but in the distant past; about the 1970s.
