We used to drive an old WWII jeep down there and fish the west end, or just ride the beach and look for seashells.  During the winter in the 1960s and early 70s, there were seldom any people who ventured westward beyond the pavement.  It was our playground.

we used to take the 4wd down to the end all the time and stay
fish in the deep hole at the end and have a blast
it's gone now though ..

Greats pics of the Island.  Clearly, nobody should have built there.  Now they've rebuilt even more than it had before.  I'd rather live at the Shell Mound area.

The arrow points to the reefs just off the beach (right at tip of arrow).




This photo was taken from the sand spit (arrow aims at it), facing the beach to the right of the arrow.

Katrina in 2005 everything moved north
