That's one big

I've only planted cabbage (which is ready for eating), spinach and red potatoes so far.  Yes, wait till after Good Friday to plant anything else.  I got ambitious one year and planted some tomatoes too soon a few years ago.  They came back after the freeze, but didn't do as well as the tomatoes I planted a few weeks later.
Dottie is going to plant some things in pots this year because I can't plow the garden anymore. We want to try growing something of a garden again. She is going to wait till Good Friday also. I hope everybody has a great day today. RTR!

Y'all are making me hungry.
LF and I have a patch of strawberries in a 12'-long planter on our deck.  We usually plant tomatoes in that after the strawberries are done (about May 15).  Nice things about a deck planter: 1) no weeds;  2) convenient to the kitchen;  3) no cats crap in it;  4) it's up off the ground by 3', so no need to bend and ovah.

Here are the sugar-snap peas we planted in it 2 years ago:

Applause E-Cred, that was a great idea. I might bring that up to Mrs Dottie and she might have some plants on our banister. RTR!

It's made of wood, so it drains between the slats.
I have a PVC irrigation system in it; just turn on the hose, and it sprays water through holes drilled in the PVC.

That's one big redfish.  I've never had popano, looks delicious, we had steak and crab cakes for dinner last night.

J, if you go to Ave Maria Grotto, those marbles used to make the miniatures belonged to my mom.  They grew up Irish poor in Mobile; my mom's brother gave her a few marbles and she took pride in winning all the boys' marbles.  Later, when her brother (my uncle) was a monk there, they used her victory marbles to construct the miniatures.

Wow, what a coincidence as I asked that very question as we walked through there, "I wonder where he got all the marbles from?" Back in my boyhood days I was one of the better marble shooters in our little town and had quite a collection of them. I ended up giving mine to the ladies that put sweet potato plants in clear water filled vases to grow for a table setting. It was quite a unique place to visit. I asked my wife and friends how the heck do you measure patience because it took a heck of a lot to build that. Thanks for sharing and I will tell my friends about your mom and uncle and her marbles, a great story.

Good Sunday morning! After fishing for 2 days and working around the house and yard yesterday, I'm pretty sore. Will need to get loosened up before playing golf later on.

Chech, after you left yesterday, everything cleared up and we didn't have another drop of rain. You prolly could have gone back to our spot and caught that stingray again.

Big day for the baseball team yesterday. Going for the sweep today.

FISHING ACCIDENT EXPLAINED

Okay, 2 mentioned an injury.  Here's what happened.

2 was reeling in a big stingray.  It was really a big one, and put up a good fight.  When it struck, it pulled the rod over and was dragging the rod/reel into the water.  2 ran down the beach (slowly) and grabbed the rod; the fight was on.  We'd decided at first that it was likely a big redfish again, but soon 2 announced that it was fighting more like a stingray.  It was indeed.

A fat lady, who'd walked down to the beach, stood and watched us.  After 5 minutes, 2 reeled it up into the shallows, and together we tugged it up onto the beach.  We hoped to get it within reach so we could cut the hook off and release it.  I had pliers in hand.  In an act of stupidity, I grabbed the line to give one more big tug.  But the line broke, and snapped back at us.  I felt a stink as it hit my wrist.  I pulled back my rain-jacket sleeve to see blood.  "What the hell?"

I could see a hook eye protruding from the soft tissue of my wrist (just the eye).  Then I realized it wasn't a hook, but the swivel that had embedded in my arm.  Only the eye was visible.

The line was still attached to it, so I tugged and pulled it back out. Yuck  Blood poured out, so I went for a fish rag (hey, it's all we had!).  Not an artery, but a vein, so blood kept coming.  Elevate and add pressure!  Within a few minutes it'd stopped bleeding, so we fashioned a bandage from a MacDonald's napkin and electrical tape.  Fishing continued.

We were just glad it hadn't hit us in the eyes!   Kiss

Very strange, but a good lesson about the power of stretched monofilament.  People could easily lose their eyes when lines snap like that.

I'm surprised that I didn't get a phone call to come and bail you two out of the pokey with bikini clad young ladies around. Laughing

Hope the wound is healing and there's no infection. Glad you two had a good time and hopefully my schedule will permit me to make the next trip with you two, I hate to miss out on all the fun.

Well, mark your calendar.  Looks like the next trip will be during middle May, probably the week of May 16-20 (somewhere that week).  Final exams end May 13th, so I'll be itching to leave town asap!  We'll pick the exact days as time approaches.

E-cred to Chech for the battle scar.

Laughing  Thanks.  I had some penicillin at home, so I started taking that yesterday.  No infection so far, but since the swivel was rubbing against a stingray before shooting into me, I'm thinking infection is likely.

E-cred to Mrs 2 for the bandaid and antiseptic.  I may survive!

The weather was pretty foul, J, so there weren't many bikini clad beauties around. Not sure why we didn't turn the camera around and get a pic of her and her friend.

Chech, I might have been slow, but that's still the fastest I've moved in years.  Laughing

Hmmm, I've never heard anyone call marijuana snap peas before and have it on the deck as well.

Just kidding. Cheesy
