Long ago I did a project that is maybe similar. I was on the strategic protroleum reserve wells in Sulphur, LA. Shallow wells into the salt domes (we call them post holes). Finish one, skid over, drill another. Only time I worked for the government. Never again.

Yep.  I think the depths are 200 to 80' or something.  Pretty sure they are spread out though.  I bid on this project last summer so that's the only reason I know anything really.
Seems these SPR wells were around 3000'-3500'. Long time ago.

I was there during the 80s.  The salt domes were being hollowed by that time; huge fire hoses blasting at the walls of salt, and pumps removing the brine.  Nasty.  Guess they're full of crude by now.
They could put that on the market now, then replenish it when the price goes back down.

I've heard it discussed, but it seems to be set aside for times of severe shortage, not for price buffering.
That has been the argument against. Largest supply in the world.

Environmental is a different ball game.  I have to log continuously undisturbed samples.  5 a day is optimistic. 3 is likely.

Sample from the shakers? AA Spectraphotometer?

Different ball game, for geoprobing, typically you pull 4 or 5 foot sections of macrocore (acetate sleeve), you have to trip out for every section.  I log it visually, take a sample, run a sniffer over it, etc.

The rig is direct push which means it just hammers down hydraulically, no turning.

We go until 'refusal' which is another term for solid rock, throw some casing down the rods and set the well as we pull out.  The hole will be 2 1/4" wide.

This is based on the way I proposed it last summer, I assume it's similar.

Like core drilling. They used to arrange those in wooden boxes and send them to town. Always envisioned some big warehouse with stacks of those boxes.

Yeah, I have done that.  I have also seen the warehouse full of boxes.  Always irritated me that they didnt trust my visual and wanted me to save that crap.

Warning self promoting: I am an expert at this, I know you're a great really deep driller guy, but when it comes to soft surface soils, partially weathered and surface rock I consider myself one of the best.  I have never met anyone who has near my skillz when it comes to this, I can pick up a handful of soil and give silt/clay/sand percentages within about 5% in about a minute.  It's second nature I've done it so many times.  I have set as many shallow wells as most drillers.  Ok I'm done with the pep talk.

I have been to a well early due to some travel issue. But in general, I have no idea how to drill to 500'. LOL Surface casing already set by the time we arrive. I'm ok from 500' to 30,000' though.  Applause E-Cred for that first 500.

Acetate sleeves look great with a sweater vest. Hope this helps.

They gave me an idea for an inspection section of a plumbing system at my friend's pacle.  I bought some in Knoxville, Tennessee years ago.  As I recall, they were some crazy price, like $30/foot.

So Chech, are you sold on Roundup for weed killing. I've been disappointed and found others (Bayer, Ortho) that work as well or better. These, as I recall, were even cheaper, in the concentrated form.
