OK, so I was a good boy all week with this nasty head cold. Drank Sobe Life water, diet green tea, even resorted to water, but kept feeling worse & worse. Tonight, I resorted to my dearly departed old dad's recipe of whiskey, honey and lemon. By golly after about 5 of those I really started feeling better. I might even have another. 

 

After 5 of those, I think I'd leave out the honey and lemon and just add ice

Not blaming my golf game on the sniffles, more like the hangover I'll likely encounter with the 7, make it 8 shots of bourbon. Leroy, my dad always said "when you have a cold, don't dilute the bourbon. The honey and lemon makes it acceptable to the wife".

Add sand to break up heavy clay.

It's packed down and not coming back up.  The topsoil is plenty sandy.  I think it will work out well.

No worries there really.  drainage is in good shape.  good gentle slopes and a french drain.

If you plan to spend your life in that pacle, I believe I would try to amend that soil. At least around the house. I don't pretend to know your soil conditions, but I bet my method would work in a limited area.

Drill about a million 12-15" holes in your yard-- add compost. Add layers of sand and compost on top. Till (if you can't plow) and till again. Work on it all summer. Some people will buy a pacle on the quality of the soil alone. CVD has done this at his pacle in Athens. JMO

I appreciate it.  Maybe at the lake house (pending).  That cherty clay crap is dried and is like cement and is staying where it is.  I will have 1 hour planting holes.

I will hydro seed or spread some seed and hay myself.  I have bermuda growing right on the cherty clay crap where I planted it a month ago.
