I've played rtj courses plenty and they suck.  Because I suck, they are beautiful but the fairways are narrow and the rough is long.  Usually ruins the fun for me when I lose a box of balls.  I'm posting from the arsenal, it's a miracle ti have this good of service out here but I am way our near gate 5 in the woods.

The RTJ courses are not for beginners. A lot of resort courses are wide open while still being a challenge. The RTJ courses can eat you up if you are not playing well.
agree but ftr I am not a beginner.  I shoot mid to low 80's when I'm playing a lot

Where do you normally play in the Pell City area?

Alpine bay if I play in PC, but when I used to play around there a lot I liked the Trussville Country Club

I have never had a lesson. I taught myself to play in high school. My grip is bad to this day. I fight a slice for 18 holes when I play. They are giving you good advice, take a few lessons and get off to a good start.

That slice is your hips, not your grip.

I understand what you are saying. You have to clear your hips. I have a baseball grip. The pros would call it a weak grip. It is really a fade not a slice. Technology has helped a lot. The offset clubs you can get today are great. I normally play in the low 80's on some pretty good courses.

I played a course in Trussville when I was a kid called Cahaba Valley. Is that still there? It was a cheap public course.

2, how was that practice round?

Shot an 83, but I played at the Champion course in Cantonment. It's too easy, no trees & wide fairways. I'm fighting a pull draw right now. Quite different than my earlier days when I was always fighting a slice. Not real happy with my swing going in to Myrtle Beach.

83 is pretty good. A draw means your swing is close to where to want it. How bad is the pull?

The draw is good, but the pull is pretty bad at times. Ideally, you want to line up with the target. I'm having to line up to the right of the target to compensate.

I'm not a golf doctor and you should not take my advice. With that said have you tried lining up up shot correctly but closing your stance a little. By that I mean moving your left foot slightly forward. It feels odd but it may help. I mean a very little forward. This needs to be tried on the range, not when money is in play.

I actually think my stance needs to be wider. I thought about that when I finished today. It used to be very wide when I was slicing.

Good point. I told you I am not a golf doctor. If you have moved your feet too close together that will cause you to clear your hips too fast.

Golf is funny. Over time you will make adjustments that are so small you do not notice it. After several months of this you are all out of place. Thats why even Tiger Woods has a coach. He has women on the side too but that is a topic for another day.

Its been really frustrating this week because there have been several days where we have had dark clouds and even some thunder but not a drop of rain.
