I just got back home from a business trip to Oklahoma. It was 115 degrees in Oklahoma City yesterday.  It was hot as Evil
We have a couple of wells going in OK. They have been having about the same temps as the guys on wells in  Dallas/Ft. Worth.  Five straight weeks of triple digit temps. Brutal. I've been on jobs down there in that heat many times. Jumping out of bed at least once during the night because of a leg cramp. Seeing yellow (sign of dehydration). I am always aware of this and watch the guys for any signs of confusion and/or mumbling. Seems I heard this area of the country just broke the old record for consecutive days above 99 degrees, set in the early 80's.  Our guys have to be on the drill floor for hours at a time. No physical exertion, but the heat being 105 coupled with no escape from the sun and all that steel-- anything you touch can burn your hand. Brutal.

Here in P'cola, my thermometer says 108 degrees and my pool is 96 degrees. I doubt the 108 is correct, but it's dayum sure hot!

One of my sisters complains about the heat. She gets mad when I remind her that she goes from an air conditioned garage, in an air conditioned car, to a air conditioned parking garage at her air conditioned office. No sweat involved. Complaining should be reserved for those that actually have to...

Hope this helps.

In addition to the heat they need rain bad. Everything is brown and trees are dying. People throw cigarettes out the window and a fire starts.

I actually love it. I could never get used to the Upstate, SC winters. I'll take the extreme heat over the cold any day. (I know, WV, that your winters are tougher than mine were)

Those conditions are prime for wildfires. I know it is out of character for me to be argumentative, but try to start a fire with a cigarette. If you get on your hands and knees and put the lit end of the butt to some dried grass, with some well timed blowing you may be able to start a fire and it catch up to become a large fire.

I went every year up to about 3 years ago. If I can't get a hotel on the beach to watch it I don't go any more because you have 100,000 people trying to get off the island all at once, and it takes 2 hours minimum to get over the bridge. I sincerely love the air show, though.

So what do you think caused those small grass fires on the side of the interstate?

I know that by my previous post some were led to believe me to be an arson investigator. Nope. My point is that it takes a concerted effort to start a fire with a cigarette. BTW, a lot of wildfires are started by unemployed firefighters. Cigarettes, given the right conditions, can start a fire.
