Afternoon campers. Glad to see everyone seems to be making it through the weekend unscathed so far (except for ricky. Hoping your doing better there, preach.) Boring yesterday, but I am making myself feel better by repeating over and over "Only three more Saturdays without football."

High school starts on 8/26. We have a practice scrimmage this friday night. This may hold me over until Bama kicks off. If I go much longer without some football I may go nuts.  Grin

What's your HS team, pmull?

Austin HS in Decatur. They are 6A Region 7. My youngest daughter is the dance/flag team captain in the band this year.

Ah yes. My senior year (1993) my alma mater (Tuscaloosa County High in Northport) lost to y'all in the state championship game in boys basketball.

CB, I'm testing my memory here, but I remember my senior year at Lanier High School in Montgomery, 1970 and Tuscaloosa Co. came to our gym. Lanier went up 63-62 with 2 seconds left on a layup by Gary Lewis (He now owns the Ramma Jamma restaurant in Tuscaloosa). Tusc. Co. inbounded the ball and the guy threw up a hail Mary that hit nothing but the net to beat us 64-63. We lost, but to this day, was one of the best basketball games I've ever seen.

We are known as a basketball and baseball school. Decatur HS is the best FB program in town. Decatur is where Rolando McClain played.

Does she know about the pickle juice trick? Strong finisher? Process? Just curious as to how Coach pmull was handling preseason drills.

I never appreciated the band until my two girls did the dance team. I am in my 8th and final year. They work hard. The dance team had a full week of camp two weeks ago learning their routine. They practiced from 8-5 with parents bringing in lunch. Last week the entire band had camp. They practiced 8-11, 1-3 and 5-dark Monday - Friday. It was hot those two weeks. It is a 175 member band. They win awards in every band competition they enter. I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching those boy's play and the band perform every Friday night during the season.

I know. My oldest daughter was in "Color Guard" at Gulf Breeze High School. It was great watching the game and have a reason to watch half-time.

You know 2, I am not sure, but that does sound awful familiar. Seems like I remember my dad telling me about that game. I don't why we don't play y'all anymore (particularly in football). Back in the day, I think we used to play nearly every year, or at least quite often.

Things have changed a great deal at Lanier. When I went there, it was the largest high school in Alabama. I don't think it is anywhere near that now. 3 weeks ago, I was in Montgomery on business. I went by to see the house where I grew up, 3 blocks from Lanier. The house no longer exists.  Sad

Yeah, and now with so much emphasis on regional games, there are fewer opportunities to play teams from other areas.

Exactly. I don't know how many out-of-conference games teams schedule, but it has to make it tough to schedule quality opponents outside of the region.

Another reason to hate the networks treatment of college football broadcasts. Back in the day, we used to at least see a good portion of the HOME team's band doing their routine. Not any more. Maybe a glimpse. Instead we get a 15 minute story about "bullying" or "crack addiction recovery". No bands-- no stats. Angry

I have found that the most entertaining marching bands are the ones that have my kids in them.  Wink
