Well, folks, Tropical Sorm Lee is here now.  We've had 3" of rain, and it's coming down in buckets still.  
That's in buckets, not into buckets.  The roof isn't leaking.  

Oh yeah, update on Lee.  Latest says it'll be into Pennsylvania by Friday and may be gone by Saturday (pray).

Light rain here. It has been raining since 11:00 and I do not think an inch has fallen yet.

Just bought Dish Network (installed Friday) for the new season. I'll be interested to see how the dish holds up to heavy winds (mountain top), lightning, snow, and ice. Hate to hear rain is also a factor.

Heavy rain is really the only thing that knocks mine out, and even then it is only for a few minutes.

TV came back after almost 15 minutes (forever if there is a game on TV).  We've had 3.5" now since 8AM this morning.

TV just went off again.  More friggin heavy rain. 

Glad I don't live in Vermont, and glad I do live atop a Mississippi hill.

Hopefully the satellite will find a signal soon.  Grrrrrr.

I have DirecTV also. If I lose the picture from rain, I change from the HD channel to the non-HD channel and get a picture, sometime. I haven't tried it during a TS.

I think you're right.  But when I changed to the local news (not HD) today, it didn't work.

BTW, TV is back; just a 5-min hiatus this time.

The dish actually picks up several different satellites.  The reason you can sometimes get a different channel is because your dish gets a stronger signal for some of the satellites.  Check your signal meter for the different satellites sometime when it is sunny outside.  They will vary somewhat.  The one that has the highest signal strength is the one you are most likely to be able to pick up during a storm.  If you know what you are doing, you can tweak the direction your dish is pointing so that the channels you think are most important have the strongest signal.  Then they will be the last to go out.  Of course you can't control which channels are grouped together on the different satellites, but you can point the dish based on which group of channels you want the most.
