Off to work.
There's a seminar today on farm subsidies.  Should be interesting.

See if they'll pay me not to grow stuff.

Summary:
1. Pay $30 Billion a year to US farmers as subsidies.  On the chopping block?  Doubtful.
2. Subsidies date back to US depression days (some way back to early 1800s).
3. Mostly grains (30-40% is corn, wheat), but also big for cotton in Mississippi.

Then I fell asleep.

Forgot to add (as edit) quote: "Farm subsidies are a mechanism that directly transfers income from the general tax payers to farm owners."  Paraphrased.

Enough with the politics or I'll start crying and pout.

Got a post-hole job.  Big enough to pay for the post hole digger.  Going to get it nowFriday.  Any tips WV?

The brand is "lowery", they are local.  Word is it works great for about 1/2 the price of the landpride.

My Landspride came with 2 augers (9" and 12"). The 9" is the first to wear out (used most). I paid $600-700, 10 years ago.

Sometimes it is far better to dig post holes as you build, rather than pre-drill.

Landpride is $1200 without an auger

Getting the Lowery for $650 with a 12" auger.

These are 12" holes for trees.  The mexicans will come along behind me.

Mark your depth (eyeball a mark) on the auger so you can see from your seat. How many holes?

Wow! My augers have a lot of use so the points are worn off. I dig a starter hole (4"x4") with the shovel.

Naw. If it was that important I would simply weld new points on using scrap metal. Keep your RPMs low so you don't scatter fill dirt all over St. Clair County.
