Another thing I bought, which should sell for good money at the gun show, was an old travel kit.  This thing was 19th century, with a locking mechanism, and a hard-shell box (covered in leather).  Inside were 2 brushes and numerous containers, all neatly fitted in place.  There was a manicure set with ivory (real ivory) handles, an ivory louse comb (like the one pictured above), a tortoise-shell comb, a cute ivory toothpick tube, razor, and much more.  I tried to find one like it on the web for a photo, but found none.  It was made in France.  I got it for $20.  The ivory louse comb (alone) is worth $20 (especially to a UT fan).

Laughing  No, but it shows how common lice were 100 years ago.  This kit wasn't owned by a commoner.  It's a fine-toothed comb for combing out the eggs, intended to counter the populations from successfully occupying your head continuously.  I think I'd bathe in kerosene or something instead.

I was just kidding. After having 3 children and living for a while in Tennessee, I'm very familiar with head lice and nit combs. True story here, we lived in a small neighborhood in rural West Tennessee. Our neighbors down the street were a bunch of in-bred hillbillies. They had 5 kids & every one of them had a white streak down the middle of their hair. We had an above ground pool and on Saturdays we would let the the neighborhood kids come swim. Their oldest daughter came over and asked me if she could swim. As she stood in front of me, I could literally see her hair move. HEAD LICE!! I walked her down the street and got her father out the door and showed the head lice to him. He said "Dayum, I just washed her hair with kerosene last night".

I've changed my mind. This whole "auction" business may be over my head.

You make everything sound overly glamorous. Make a feller forget all about the hours of "groomin" one would have to go through just to get out amongst 'em. We are more meat and potatoes people, than nit pickers. But thanks for sharing. RTR

Going to bed pretty soon.  Last year I went to bed the night before the Tennessee game, woke up around 2:30 AM feeling a little funny, by 3:00 I was in the bathroom.  Spent the game on the couch in and out of consciousness.  I remember it was a blowout but I had to watch highlights on youtube this morning to remember anything that happened.

I'm pretty sure it was the street food I ate Saturday evening last year that got me.  Tonight I took the wife to a Malaysian restaurant. I'm hoping that was a better decision.

I would say phil that you should eat what you had last year to insure another Viles butt whoopin', but considering your ordeal, I think I will refrain from such advice. No football win is worth Montezuma's revenge (or would that be Confucious' Revenge where you are at?)
