Wish y'all had seen the redneck wearing an LSU shirt at the show.  Fat guy.  Truth, he had a Mohawk haircut, a dirty LSU shirt and cap, and as he approached my table he started to sneeze, raised his tee shirt over his face and sneezed into it.  Apparently there was a nose discharge, so he peeked into the shirt, then rubbed it against his chest.  Eww, yuck.  That is absolutely the truth.

Shocked And these inbread bastids will be infiltrating our beloved T-town in a matter of days.

"Mean spirited?  Me?"   Smiley

"I'm the good Chech of the north."

Looooooooooong day at the show.  I've unpacked the truck and relaxing.

I came home to a wonderful fragrance wafting from the kitchen.  LF had made biscuits (real ones, not prefab tube dough), fried some bacon, and made a batch of grits.  It was delicious.  I put some of the pear preserves (that I tabought at the gun show) on the biscuits - yum.

Chech, I'm just curious, Is their any profit turned at the gun shows on a regular basis? I've been to several and it looks like most people come to those to mainly browse. Maybe a handful of people that are as knowledgeable as you, looking for specific good deals.

Most of the guys at tables selling guns are like farmers; they don't tell how much they make.

I sell knives, and usually take in about $800-1000 per show (this show was half that).  That's gross sales, about $300 net on maybe 30-50% markup on my knives.  The tables cost $55 each (I get 2).  Mostly its just an opportunity to trade and get a few knives that you like.

My guess is that the gun guys selling new pistols make the most money.  They have unlimited supply available and lots of new (novice) customers.  The rest of us deal with collectors, who are savvy about prices.

I could make waaaaay more money consulting on weekends, but its not fun to me.  I enjoy buying and selling.  BTW, all of the items I bought at the auction on Friday night sold (framed photos, kitchen knives, porcelain birds, mouse traps, tools, and assorted antique jars).  I paid $8 for it all.  The last of it went to one lady who bought the entire box and leftover odd items this morning for $5.  I'd sold the kitchen knives for $10 yesterday, the photos for $3 each, the birds for $5, jars for $6....  Like I said, just fun.

Well, It's good to know you don't usually go home empty handed. I've talked to some people who do flea markets and for many of them, that's not the case.

I think many people poor mouth about it.  I've sat next to people who sell guns and watched them sell 4-5 guns.  Then they fill out their tax statements for the show and put 1 sale.  Maybe it's the tax threat (Big Brother watching) that makes them underestimate sales to anyone interested.  Or maybe some people don't make much money.  But many do.  Wink

That's what we're known for!

Forgot to mention this old 19th-Century travel kit I got at the auction.  I bought it for $18 and sold it for $40.  It was high on the cool factor; ivory items, tortoise-shell comb, and a leather cover.  They probably sold it for $60 or more...

Right.  The buyer thought the nit comb was cool.  While I was showing it to him I found a secret compartment.  It was under the square-lid container.  Below the squatty container was a felt-covered flap covering a little money compartment.  It was empty.  Sad

You get it all here on CRS.  If you'd like, I could come to your house, offer you a list of things I collect, then pick through your attic and closets.  Smiley

Absolutely; Danielle is really burlesque-dancing Dannie.  Open link without kids over your shoulder.
