Beautiful fall day here in northern Mississippi.  Most of the leaves came down this week with the rain and wind, but those trees that still hold leaves are spectacular: gingkos, some sugar maples, scarlet oaks, cherrybark oaks...

Nice day.

Hey Chech, is that at UM?

Hmm.  I searched "fall colors ole miss" and got this photo, but it turns out to be St. Olaf College (Minnesota).  It looks much like Ole Miss, though, except the coed isn't strikingly beautiful.

Yeah, the coed should have tipped me off.

This afternoon our youngest came to me to talk. Dead serious. I thought he may have gotten some girl "in the family way". LOL He wanted a new leaf blower. He never asks for anything. Now that he is the only kid home, he has to do all the jobs. He never complains, to the point of my having to be careful not to give him too much to do. I gave our leaf blower to my brother. He has big decks and is surrounded by trees. We mostly use the tractors for "leaf management".

The one I had was a super heavy-duty Stihl--the backpack type. All I really need is a smaller one for cleaning off the patio and cleaning out the flower beds around the house.  Anyone have particular success with a lightweight, plenty powerful one?

"Task Force" from Lowes. Lightweight & powerful. Mine is electric. I don't know about gas.

On the Crimson Tide, leaf blowing scale--how does it rate? Will it move a whole pile, like MFBATR, or do you have to pick around the edges of the pile, like Marquiss Maze? I could live with it moving half a pile, rolling half at a time, like Jalston Fowler. I also sometimes blow snow, when it is not to deep or wet, but sometimes it just swirls in circles, like EL, and sometimes gets blown back on the patio like AJ Sad.

I recommend gas. They make some good dependable electric but I hate draging the cord around. I have a Toro. I like it. I have never seen one reach BATR level. I would say my is All-SEC but not Hesiman level. I payed a little more because I have gone through a cheap Pouland/Weedeater and Troy-Bilt. The cheap do not last.

It sounds like your boy works pretty hard and is pretty responsible.  My suggestion would be to give him a budget and tell him to go do some research and figure out which one to by.  Maybe have him come back with 2 or 3 options and explain them to you and make a recommendation.  Ask him questions to make him explain and justify the choices he makes.  Then give him the money and let him go buy it.  Good practice for when he is out on his own spending his own money.

LOL--What if he just says, "Pick up your own leaves"?

Not a bad idea with Dillon. He can use the math/judgement exercise, maybe as much as anyone I've ever seen(lol). He tries too hard to please me. I could work him to death, like the horses running all day and night on a cowboy movie, and he would never say a word.

Sounds like he needs a vacation more than a leaf blower. Do they have child labor laws in WV?  Wink
