Big "shrimp-off" eh?  All they ever got excited about in Texas waters back in the 70s was the Vietnamese.  Biggest complaint was "Vietnamese won't let the shrimp rest." (belief that shrimp hibernate and need rest periods)

That closed season is mostly to save the shrimp populations.  Briefly, shrimp spawn offshore and the larvae migrate into the estuary to develop.  There is a natural gap between presence of adults shrimp offshore (but there are also 3 primary species of commercial shrimp; variable-season habits).

I don't like the big shrimp anyhow; too big and rubbery.  Give me the boiled 20-count babes.

Ditto. 3 species--is that white, pink, brown? This show won't be a wealth of knowledge. I remember the shrimpers (white boot guys) hating the Vietnamese because the Vietnamese never stopped shrimping--one family would get off the boat-another would get on.

Right, those 3 spp.  BTW, the pink shrimp are very sweet and good to eat right out of the net (raw).  Not slimy, and yummy. 

Yeah, the Bayou guys would come home from a trip with several thousand dollars, get drunk and spend the money.  When it was gone they'd go back out.  The Vietnamese fished 24/7 (how un-American!!).
