Mornin' all from P'cola. I am among the unemployed today and feel great. Kiss

Wanna go in on a bush hogging, backhoe, small loader, small tree removal, and fence post installing company?

Can I be a silent partner and put up cash, but not do any of the work? Cool

Yes, that would be ideal.

How much we talking about?

IDK, if you're serious, with an investor I could get some slightly used equipment and save a few thousand.  I only have enough for down payment type.

I am still in the costing stages, I have a lot of quotes on tractors, but all new.

but we could probably get started as low as 15k with used and limited equipment and could spend up to 50k quick if it was there.

I am still undecided on how much to drop on the equipment in the beginning.  Part of me says have good stuff and be ready for whatever the client needs, another part of me says ease your way in and dont break the bank.

Sounds like you're serious about this. What do you anticipate the R.O.I. to be?

I bought a tiller (landspride) for my tractor years ago ($1400). I started tilling gardens to recover the expense. Before long (a couple or three seasons) I had maybe 50 customers. Point being, you can always recover your investment with these tools. It's just a matter of how fast.

For the last few years I donated my tilling proceeds to the library, until I heard the class envy folks saying it was some kind of scam. No mas.

Very serious, I have some time, so I am still mulling variations on the plan.

I am thinking I will charge 70 an hour for most services, with a fuel surcharge I will travel anywhere, but my focus will be my county.  I figure I only need 2 days a week of business to be able to make the tractor payment ~500 dollars, and pay myself enough to get by just fine.  (but obviously I would work 6 days a week if the business is there) I am in a unique position right now of having almost no bills and a decent stockpile of cash.  If I am going to do something different or take a chance now is the time.  I will always be a professional geologist, which is a nice fall back.  This entire adventure will likely be a paycut, but I just hate working for other people.

Ditto. I will probably either start my own FMO (Field Marketing Organization) here in P'cola or work with my business partner, who already has one in SC, in which I am already invested. I'm definitely taking some time off, though, to recharge my batteries.

Not sure what an FMO is, but you could certainly handle the marketing for the land services.  I really think there is a need.  All the farmers are old and the land is run down around here.  You cant find anyone to bush hog for you except some hill billy with an old tractor or the big guys.  We could be billionaires, or at least self employed.  Smiley  I have a dream.

Beats me. I'd guess the public assistance folks cannot fathom someone giving something away. Ironic, huh?

If they want their field clear they will.  I dont know, there are certainly some unknowns or I would be out there already.  I was reading on other forums that guys in Pennsylvania are charging 100 an hour and are swamped during the season.  So idk,  Once I do a few and figure out my cost, maybe I could come up with some "job rates" or something.  I am all ears on ideas here.  BAMAWV seems to think it's just a matter of getting your name out there, and I tend to agree.

Isnt WV just as poor as Alabama?
