The search for Auburn’s new head football coach has come to an end with Gus Malzahn the choice to replace Gene Chizik, who was fired following a disappointing 2012 season for the Tigers.

Offensive coordinator on Auburn’s 14-0 BCS National Championship team in 2010, Malzahn coached three seasons.

Not a chance. Kirby's next move will be a good head coaching job.

Just heard it on Finebaum.  Good deal for everyone.  I was hoping it would be Gus.

Guess the power brokers at the Barn are comfortable they can control Gus.

Barn's personnel will fit Gus's up-tempo spread better than they fit with what Chiz tried to do this year.

However, Barn boards are melting down over this decision.  So I guess if they don't like it... maybe we should.

Petrino is still so radioactive no one will go near him. Finebaum guest said with all the job openings only Southern Miss was showing real interest in him. Amazing.

The barners were wanting a home run hire. They did not get their wish. You have to think they tried but no one wanted the job. This morning rumors were started that Kirby Smart turned down a 6 year $3.5M/yr offer. In the end they another puppet that the boosters can control. I guess we will be seeing more of Pat Dye.

If he went to USM, he'd drop them like a hot tater as soon as the stink wore off of him, and some bigger program threw money his way.

Lordy, if my wife was half that stupid, I'd have divorced her long time ago.

That gal Kristi makes dumb blondes look like geniuses!

OK, I officially back off my Bobby Peckerino prediction...for now.  He WILL show up someplace next year..wait and see.

There was no home run hire available, especially for the Barn.  We all know Chiz was terrible, but who would take a job at a school that just fired their head coach two years after a National Championship?  Gus was probably the only reason Auburn did so well -- it was the offense, not the defense, that won that championship.  He probably thinks that too, taking a pay cut to get out from under the Chiz, so that won't bother him.

I bet he doesn't hire Chiz to be his defensive coordinator.

This morning rumors were started that Kirby Smart turned down a 6 year $3.5M/yr offer.

Smart released the following statement:

"Over the last few weeks, I've really put a lot of thought and time into where I wanted to (continue) my coaching career. I am blessed that I am in the situation where I have several great opportunities, and I appreciate everyone attending this meeting. I want to make an announcement so I can put this behind me and get on with all the work that I need to do for Alabama and get prepared for the National Championship game.

I am going to stay at the University of Alabama.

I have a lot of respect for Auburn and the coaches and all the other people and the fans. But at the end of the day, I felt like Alabama is the place for me and my family and had the best situation for me and my family. I am 100 percent confident with my final decision. I feel great about my decision, and I'm excited to get started."

He then left to go get an Alabama tattoo.
