Men's Hoops Returns Home To Take On Mercer (1:00 CSS ESPN3)

The Alabama men's basketball team will return to Coleman Coliseum where it will take on the Mercer Bears on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The game will mark just the second home game for the Crimson Tide in the month of December, and the first since taking on Dayton back on Dec. 5.

"We are looking forward to being back on our home court and looking forward to playing Saturday against a good Mercer team," Alabama head coach Anthony Grant said. "We are coming off a win on the road against another very good team in Texas Tech. There were some things we were able to take away from that game, both positive and learning opportunities. Our focus has really been about the things we need to do better as a basketball team and that's where we are at right now. We have a quick turnaround for this game against Mercer. They have played a challenging schedule and have had success on the road this season. It will be a game that's very challenging for our guys. We will start to familiarize our guys with Mercer (Friday), but our focus has really been on what we need to do and what gives us the best chance to be successful."

Most recently, the Crimson Tide (7-3) snapped a three-game losing streak by capturing a 66-62 road win at Texas Tech last Saturday. Sophomore guard Trevor Lacey (21 points) and junior guard Trevor Releford (17 points) combined for 38 of UA's 66 points in the victory.

Sloppy first half. We were up by 11 at one point. We only have 3 turnovers but we look out of sync on offense. We should be blowing Mercer out.

Releford has 9 points. Cooper, Pollard and Jacobs each have 4. Lacey and Cooper have 3 rebounds each.

Bama was beat by a very poor team today. We should have beaten them by 20. We lead by 11 on several occassions only to let Mercer back in the game. This is going to be a long season. We miss Engstrom bad. We are getting killed under the basket every game.

Very disappointed in our play and effort today. We are playing like a poor coached team. Mercer had half the talent of us but they ran an offense that got players open for good shots.

Mercer beats us 44-32 in the second half.

We let Texas Tech come back and almost win when we had a 21 point lead with 10 minutes to play. Today Mercer came back from 11 down with 10 minutes to play. We have to learn how to put teams away when we get a lead.

I did not get to see the game, so your comments are greatly appreciated. I can not believe we lost this game. What is going on with this team, is there a problem we are unaware of? What is wrong with Nick Jacobs, he should have eaten their lunch under the  basket? My biggest concern is the coaching and Grant. What is going on with him, is something distracting him? This is starting to look like a disaster of a season, something like 16-15 or worse.

This was not a horrible team. Maybe comparible to a mid-level ACC team, with a post game that we could not handle. CAG cannot get rebounds or put backs.
