Not sure to put this here or on Canterbury: So if it needs to be moved, please do so.

I have not been happy with the church that I am a member of for quite some time.

Awhile back I visited a church that some of my family has attended for generations.Different denomination than the church I am a member of). I was informed later that some of the "regulars" got very upset because I had sat in "their pew." (Yes really, folks.)

Last week I attended a non-denominational church for the first time!

I. LOVED. IT!

I know that this type of service is not for everyone, and I can appreciate that. Some truly love the traditional type service, and that is great. But this is much more suited for my taste.

Awesome message, delivered by Brother Andy Stanley of Northpoint Ministries, and here is the band! ( This is what was playing as I entered the church)

(BTW anyone who can download this video, flip it 90 degrees and re-post, I would be most appreciative!!!)

Hey brother reuben, it doesn't have anything to do with denomination my friend. If they preach the TRUE Gospel of Jesus Christ, born of a virgin came as a man and died on the Cross and Rose again on the third day, this is what gets you Saved. If you feel the Spirit and it moves on you then hey I would go where I wanted too. I go to a Baptist Church and Preach, but if God told me to get out here on one of these tree stumps and Preach, next Sunday I would be standing on one on the stump and Preaching Gods' Word. I hope you understand my idea behind it. God Bless brother and our love to the family. RTR!

My family has been members of First Bible Church of Decatur for 15 years. It is a non-denominational church.

My advise to you is to not get caught up on whether you are attending a Baptist, Methodist or any other denomination church but make sure they teach from the bible. There are good churchs in every town. Find one that makes you happy and one that helps you mature as a christain. If you have kids (and I think you do) make sure they have a good youth program.

Our church also has a band. I like it a lot. We sing a combination of the old hymns and the newer music.

Good luck. I will pray you find the right church to fit your family's needs.

I understand exactly what you mean, brother! And I agree. I think that the denomination is more for the comfort of the person, or persons. And yes they do preach the true Gospel, at Wiregrass. And the fact that even the word "Gospel" means "Good news" or "Good Story." And that if anyone has ever led you to believe that the gospel was anything other than good news, then maybe you have been led astray. This church delivers a very positive and upbeat message. But I think my favorite thing was how I was treated the first time, as a guest. People smiled, and nodded, and said hello. There were zero awkward moments. No, bum-rushing me, asking who I was, what church I attended, no over bearing welcomes, no wearing a name tag, no having to stand and introduce myself, and / or being recognized by the congregation...none of that. Just friendly smiles, hello's and "how are you's?" This church is very laid back.

There is more to church membership than plopping down on Sundays. Giving to others through your church reaches far and wide. While I am a lifetime member of a Presbyterian Church, I have maybe attended 5 or 6 times over the last 15 years (not counting family weddings and funerals). But my money has maybe touched thousands. Our minister comes for lunch a couple times a year to convince me to do better. I threaten to cut him off, the woman threatens to cut me off, and he mentions me in the following Sunday service. Point being, your church is your link to the community, and the world!

Church is in the heart. "Believing Jesus Christ came from a virgin and was crucified on the Cross for our sins, and was Raised the 3rd day and ascended back to heaven and was seated at the right hand of God.
If they teach anything else it is not of God. God Bless, pray you will find your place. God Bless!

Regular church attendance does not make you a Christain nor will it get you to Heaven. There is only one way to Heaven and that is through faith alone. However, going to church is recommended. It is difficult to grow and mature as a follower of Christ by yourself. If you find church boring or you just don't like going it is time to find a new church. A good pastor can make the sermon fun and entertaining while teaching straight from the bible.

The church I attend is a mission minded church. We support missions around the world. We do this by donating money, bibles, research tools and even clothes. We give to both Mission Organizations and to individuals. We also support local missions in Decatur. I believe a church should help the local community. I personnally send a small support check each month to a missionary family in Ireland and to Campus Outreach.

So WV we are not that far apart in what we believe. I just plop my fanny in a church seat a little more often than you do.

Or maybe it is time for you to do more yourself, i.e. study your Bible more, personally contribute to the worship services, etc...  It isn't always the church that is the problem but sometimes the person's heart.  The church isn't the place to go for entertainment but rather where we go to worship God.  Just because we are bored doesn't mean that God isn't pleased with the service.

I agree with NALT, in that I believe his larger point is that it seems people go try to find a church that they like and don't always give proper thought to what God wants.  There's certainly some ministers who have a knack for public speaking moreso than others, and there's certainly nothing wrong with trying to find a church where you feel more comfortable, but more often than not you get out of worship what you put into worship.  I don't see watching people perform as putting a lot in...that's just IMO.

I agree with you and NALT. My comment to looking for a new church if you find it boring was in reference to someone who has been a church member for 15 years and only attended a church service 5 or 6 times. This is clearly not all the churches fault. However, something needs to change.

I believe that someone who has been a church member for 15 years and only attended a church service 5 or 6 times have not been pleasing to God.  He wants our worship regularly and yes, I believe that attendance at the worship services is mandatory in order to be obedient and pleasing to Him.  That definitely is not a "church" problem but rather a heart problem.  If one doesn't worship more than that then they need to seek guidance from The Great Physician for their deadly (spiritually dead) heart condition.  Again, JMHO...

Regular church attendance does not make you a Christain nor will it get you to
Let me make a few points clear.
1. There are a LOT more things going on at this church than the"enertainment" and the band.

2. There is a LOT of ways to get involved with this church both participating in the service, and not. (Exteranlly there is mission work locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.)

3. There are also diffrent bibal study groups, and group meetings for singles, married men, married women, couples...etc...

4. Just becuase church service is traditonal, does not make it right. Do a little studing of Martin Luther breaking away form the catholic "traditonal church service if you don't believe me.

Rueben, it looks like you have found a good church that fits your needs. Praise God for that.

There are many good churches in every town teaching good biblical theology. Some are traditional and some are not. Others, like my church, meet somewhere in the middle.

There was an event in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome that started on New Years day. It was called "Passion". It had Christain rock music that appeals to a younger crowd. It had an attendance of over 60,000 college kids. In breaks between bands guest speakers would tell their testimony and spread the gospel. Thousands of kids accepted Christ during the event. That is proof there is more ways than traditional church services to teach and spread God's word.
