If you believe in destiny, this should be Notre Dame’s night....
When they kick off in Sun Life Stadium at 7:31 p.m. CT, tradition takes a step back, and talent takes over. History defers to experience. Measure the things that matter in a football game, and Alabama is the better football team.
Front to back. Offense and defense. The Crimson Tide can outscore you, as it did in that rare shootout against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, but most of the time, if you want a smashmouth slugfest, if you want to put the game on the broad shoulders of the offensive and defensive lines, Alabama will outmuscle you.
Notre Dame hasn’t faced a team with Alabama’s strength and numbers up front. The Crimson Tide has the best offensive line in college football and the most underrated no-name defensive line.
Alabama has the more talented and experienced quarterback, too, in AJ McCarron, and it’s no coincidence that freshman quarterbacks such as Notre Dame’s Everett Golson don’t win national titles very often.
It probably won’t happen in the first half. It may not happen until the fourth quarter. But at some point tonight, Alabama is going to be what it’s been most of this season. The better football team on the field. The best football team in the country.
Call it Alabama 24, Notre Dame 10 for a second straight national title and a third in four years.
Alabama’s dynasty smashes Notre Dame’s destiny right in the mouth.
