Somehow all the pieces don't fit together here.  How can you not know for sure if your "girlfriend" has died??  So if he didn't know, then how could he & his family have been so easily duped?  Or if he did know that this was a hoax from the start, then did he let it play out as a deception for whatever benefit he (or ND) thought they'd get?  Either way, lots of the sports press was duped too and they ought to be ticked about it.

They (Te'o and Notre Dame) want us to  believe that he fell in love with seriously ill girl online and took someone else's word for it that she died. Phoney Baloney! Notre Dame did enough vetting to make sure no NCAA rules were broken and that was all! NFL scouts beware!

I find it incredibly hard to believe that you know someone for 3 years, are her boyfriend for 8 months, and yet not know she's fake.  Does he also still believe in Santa Claus?
