Former Alabama Golfer Michael Thompson Captures first PGA Tour Victory

Roll Tide! I knew he would win a tournament sooner or later. Now it is Bud Cauley' time. I like seeing these former Bama players doing well on the PGA Tour.

Former Alabama golfer Michael Thompson shot a final-round 69 on Sunday to claim his first PGA Tour victory at the 2013 Honda Classic at PGA National.

"I am so proud of Michael," Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said following Thompson's victory on Sunday. He has worked so hard and this is a great moment for him and his wife Rachel. He has always represented Alabama golf with class."

Thompson, a native of Tucson, Ariz., and a current resident of Birmingham, finished at 9-under-par 271 to edge Geoff Ogliv by two shots. Thompson birdied the final hole with a brilliant long bunker shot that left him with a 3-foot birdie putt to seal the win.

"I wanted to just stick to a game plan just like I've been saying all week," Thompson told PGAtour.com. "This week was magical, just find a groove, keep believing."

Roll Tide!  He really did put together a solid, consistent four rounds which is so difficult to do.

I was just watching the Golf Channel and one of the reporters asked him at the post game presser what was going to change in his life, now. He said that he was going to have to adapt to media and fan attention, but that he still wanted to hang out with the Alabama golf team and attend Alabama football games, that he just wanted to be himself. Good stuff. Roll Tide, Michael!
