I heard Grant comment on Obasohan a couple weeks ago, that he'd shown a lot of growth and improvement as the year progressed and he'd be rewarded with more playing time.  He hasn't disappointed!  I think he's our 3rd best player at this point.
Y'all are way too quick to annoint. He adds to the mix and is finally earning his keep a little. But that is all. Again, getting more guys involved in the offense takes a little defensive pressure off Releford, as evidenced in the last couple of weeks.

BTW, 9'GB scored 2 pts. with 3 PF, 0 reb., and 1 turnover. Reduced to 10 minutes of playing time. He almost caused a turnover from the bench because he can't learn to SIT DOWN and shut up.
He averages close to 4 Rebs. per game and 1.5 blocks.  The 2 points is a good game for him.  I noticed that he often doesn't rebound but instead knocks the ball towards another player, so that number could be higher, although he knocked the ball out of bouns in the GA game.  I do think he provides help on D, look what LSU was able to do inside once he fouled out, but obviously he is way behind the development curve -- maybe so much so that the incoming freshmen could (wishful thinking) take his place inside, or Engstrom and Jacobs.

You have to be kidding. We could replace him with one of those wooden giraffes--the ones that kids hang their clothes on in their bedroom.

Yeah, I know he is a wasted scholly, but the only explanation for his starting role is D.

BOTH he and Jacobs get used by opposing big guys, game after game. His rebounds are only the ones that bounce RIGHT to him. His PF to blocked shot ratio favors the opposition. PFs can be strategically used to make teams earn the points at the line, rather than scoring a easy layup or put back. But he mostly wastes his fouls on a block attempt for a shot the guy may miss anyway. Throw in lane violations on FTs, when he gives the guy he fouled an extra chance to make one, and you'd have to be pulling your hair out. Defensively, he gets backed up to where he is under the goal, and he just stands there instead of moving to front his man. At least Jacobs makes the opposing big man work a little for 2. His height could be used in picking fruit, but I noticed the Senegal lists groundnuts as a major export so he wouldn't be that good at that either. HTH

LOL. I am hesitant to ever criticize the kids, particularly when they are giving their all. But this one has gotten under my skin--thinking he is some kind of superstar. I see Releford, Randolph, and the rest giving their all, playing their hearts out,-- and then see him spoiling their chance for success.  I'll be seriously disappointed in CAG if he is in uniform next season.

Gueye is as good as he is going to get. Early on I thought playing time would help him improve but that does not appear to be the case. He is getting playing time because we have no one else.

I am glad to see Jacobs improving on the offensive end. He is a 6-8 power forward. Too bad our depth is so bad we can not put another quality post player in the game at the same time with him. What bothers me about Jacobs is the way he started the season. He had a hurt ankle but he was 30 pounds over weight and out of shape. It took him most of the season to get into playing shape. That needs to be corrected this off season. We would have won games against Mercer and Tulane had he showed up ready to play and would have a tournament bid locked up right now..

Engstrom will be back next year and I look forward to that regardless of what WV says. He is a defensive force and was showing signs that he could make an easy basket or two each game. We have two big freshmen coming in. I hope one or both of them are ready to play for us. Pollard was a disappointment this year. He needs to put on some weight in the offseason but still come back in shape. CAG can use Pollard as an example to the new guys that they need to bulk up and be ready to play when they come in. You are not in high school anymore.

Sad

CAG will figure out a way to get rid of both of them by next fall. You've just forgotten how horrible Engstrom was from looking at 9'GB. He is not the answer to our glaring problem. I'm personally tired of being the laughingstock of the SEC by playing those two.

Hopefully Jacobs now sees what is possible when he applies himself.

Dead on with Pollard. He needs 20-30 lbs. of muscle for next season. But you have to be careful with weights and basketball players or you'll mess with their "touch". I never lifted weights after, say, August or September, except for maybe leg exercises.

We still have two scholarships open. Steele graduates to leave us with 9 on scholarship. We have two signed. I know CAG is looking for a point guard to round out the class. I hope we use that last one on a JUCO big man. You will not find a superstar in JUCO but all we need is someone who can hold their own on defense and contribute on offense.

IMO we will not be any better next year if our inside game does not improve.

Don't we have like 8 guards already?  Laughing

He needs to use all of the scholly's on big guys this time so hopefully 1 or 2 will actually pan out.

I agree about Engstrom. He was showing real energy on both ends of the court and he could score on occassion. We would have won more games with him playing all year.

We have three point guards. Lacey, Obasohan & Releford. Cooper and Randoplf do not play PG. Releford graduates next year, Lacey is a better shooting guard than PG. I don't know if Obasohan will mature into a SEC caliber PG. I think we need to get a PG if a good one ia available. If not, we will be complaining in two years we don't have a guard who can get the ball inside to our big guys.

Engstrom may have improved a little (from horrible) had he not been injured. So you want to waste another year to find out?

Engstrom will help our team next year. Hopefully it will be as a non-starting role player. However, unless the freshmen can step up he may be our best option.

(WV, it is against CRS rules for me to call you hard headed so I won't.)

Do ya'll think Engstrom is going to injury prone? If he is, that will hurt us bad, we need a real regular player in the paint to help out. RTR!
