I have to say Maryland played a solid game even though they lost their starting point guard. With him playing it might have been worse for us. Randolph & Jacobs played good ball but Obasohan & Lacey were non-factors.

If we were going to beat Maryland last night was our shot. They had 17 turnovers and 15 PFs, as well as rebounding 9 under their season average. They shot well, percentage wise, but much of that was at point blank range until Len went out with foul trouble. Even then, Md. was able to score down low with another forward (Layman), against our inside players. Lacey and Obasohan have been non-factors much of the season. Lacey had 8 assists but this was kinda negated with 4 turnovers. Maybe the replay will show we had no choice, but I was disappointed to see the ball in Lacey's hands at crunch time.

Maryland is a good team. I give them credit for coming to our house and leaving with the win and advancing to New York.

I hate to see the season end. I feel we were getting better as the season went on. I think we can take a lot of positives from this year into the offseason. Everybody comes back plus two incoming big freshman who I hope have the size, strength and body type to make an immediate impact.

Maryland went on an 8 minute cold steak in the 1st half and we did not take advantage of it. They closed out the 1st half strong to take the 7 point halftime lead. I think CAG made some good adjustments and we played much better in the 2nd half. Maryland hit three three's in a row after we took the 1 point lead but we fought back and gave ourselves a chance to hit a shot for the win. That was a set play called from the bench for Lacey to end the game. Lacey got a good look but the shot was a little off.

I think Lacey and Obasohan have been factors this year. Lacey has been asked to play point guard this year to free Releford up to be a scorer. It hurt his point production but helped Releford. Obasohan played well this year when given playing time. He is a freshman his time will come. Pollard was a non factor this year IMO. He was a 5 star player and the only recruit we got last year. CAG said he was our priority in recruiting. He has potential but he needs to add weight and strength this offseason while maintaining his quickness.

I am high on this team for next year. We are missing a puzzle piece in the post from being an outstanding team. I hope we get that fixed for next year. We still have scholarships available for next year. I know CAG is looking for a point guard. I would not mind getting a JUCO power forward in this class.

That's our biggest need right there.  And I don't see a freshman being able to come in and fill that role.

Maryland had better, bigger athletes than Bama, especially in the frontcourt. If Bama can place that puzzle piece, it could have a great season next year.

Perfect analysis by pmull and you have really hit the nail on the head about a power forward.

9-2 run since Bama went to man to man and Len sat down (FOULS).
Md. back to back to back 3s--still shooting off the charts.
NO FOUL--- Angry (also shot clock ran out).

Terrible call.  All ball AND the shot clock ran out.  When they froze the picture to show you the shot clock you could see the defender was only touching the ball.

2 big plays by Jacobs-- one 2 pointer on offense and a stop down low on defense. Md. by 4-- still shooting 50% due to point blank shots by Wells and Len.
Need to go with man "D" with Randolph on Wells.
Len also wearing Jacobs out-- but Jacobs has the up-side of maybe being able to score to balance Len out.
Angry A new (different) lane violation by Gueye. Get him out or we will lose!

There is no excuse for a lane violation on a foul shot, especially on offense.  9'GB averages about 1 per week throughout the season.  That is the equivalent of lining up in the neutral zone in football about every other game.  What do you think CNS would have done if Jesse had lined up in the neutral zone once every other game last year?  This shows a lack of focus/concentration and mental toughness IMO.

NO FOUL--- Angry (also shot clock ran out).
1:25  58-55 Md. ball-- no fouls --no Gueye.
Travel-- Bama ball-- RELEFORD --1 pt game. Maryland 58-57  38secs.
Another bad call-- foul instead of held ball-- Bama ball 19 secs-- down 1.

Yep, another horrible call.  That was clearly a held ball.  No question about it, even in real time.  No replay necessary, but the replay proved it.

Why don't we just let the refs flip a coin at the beginning of the game to see who wins and save everybody a couple of hours?  Close games ultimately end up getting decided by a judgement call by the refs any way.

That was a terrible call. The replay showed he had not gone up for his shot before the shot clock expired. Even if the foul occurred prior to the shot clock expiring it should have been a non-shooting foul. They should have got the ball out of bounds at best. The refs blew this call on several levels.

They gave the guy two free throws. No way he was trying to shoot. He came down with the rebound and Randolph tied him up. He was trying to get the ball away from Randolph not trying to shoot. They were not in the bonus, at best they should have got the ball out of bounds.

I don't remeber seeing Pollard in the game.  Did he play at all?  If not why?

I'm hoping he works hard this summer and is able to help out in the paint next year.  If he and Jacobs both do that, then I think we have a decent shot of winning the conference next year and making a nice run in March.  If Jacobs comes back for practice fat and out of shape again, show him the door.  Or even better, start making him sleep at Hotel Cochran.  Jacobs has shown a lot of improvement over the year.  If he had came in ready to play we might be talking about our Sweet 16 opponent right now.

If the other guys work as hard this summer as they did last summer we will have a pretty good team.  Our outside shooting was much improved this year over last year, especially Releford.  No doubt that came from spending the summer in the gym.
