IMO this would be good for college football. It would keep juniors and seniors academically responsible.

Quote
The NFL is considering not inviting players who are academically ineligible in college to the scouting combine, a league source told CBSSports.com.

The move is being discussed because of the increased scrutiny on the maturity and commitment of the prospects entering the NFL, the source said, adding that if this measure was in place in 2013, a sizable group of players would not have been invited to Indianapolis for the combine.

I say as I sit and think about this that it is a great idea. With some of these kids leaving a college education so young it is easy to understand their immaturity. This is where the NFL problems come from a lot. Suicide, murder and others, shows the immature kids are into the wrong things. NFL (not for long) if they don't clean up their game. I am sorry but to take a kid before he is a leader as in his Senior year, he doesn't know how to be a man yet. JMHO. RTR!

I think the very existance of the NBA refutes your statement...

N.AL-Tider, hey you could be right but you made me be reminded about one thing. It is about money not honesty, or morals. This why I have to some what agree. Thugs, gangs and money. RTR!

Seems like this would be good for both the NFL and college FB.  Guys who use the NFL as an escape hatch to get away from being accountable for mistakes would't get to the combine.  That should give them some more incentive to stay out of trouble, go to class, etc., i.e. to do the right thing.

Guys who take the escape hatch would then have a bit of a stigma of not being at the combine and have to make up the lost attention, and explain why they weren't there.  Just makes it a little tougher for them.  Might affect their draft ranking which will affect the $$$ they sign for. All incentives to stay out of trouble.

I like this as well and I applaud the NFL for this line of thinking. I would really like to see the NBA clean up their program and follow the lead of the NFL, requiring all players to go to college and stay a minimum of 3 years.

The NFL won't do it unless the NFL thinks it is in their best interest.  My guess is they have realized that these guys have a tendency to fizzle out more often than not (after getting that big pay day from the initial contract).

If the NFL is considering this in order to "clean up" their league then they first need to find a way to filter out the Jamarcus Russell, Rolando McClain, Aaron Hernandez type of players.  Sadly, all three of those are former SEC players.

Ro doesn't belong with that group, at least not yet.  He was certainly headed in that direction, but hopefully he is going to turn things around now that he is back on campus to finish up his degree.  JMHO.

I saw Ro a couple weeks ago just outside Decatur.  We were pumping gas next to each other.  A young lady (20ish) was driving and Ro was pumping gas and taking care of a little girl (I'd say somewhere between 1 and 2 years old).  He looked like he was pretty good with the kid.  I didn't speak to him, but I was glad to see that the car turned away from Decatur and back towards I-65 when leaving the station.  I wish I'd told him I was rooting for him.
