Interesting. Bill Snyder of Kansas State rated higher than Les Miles & Bob Stoops?!

 Shocked

Once upon a time, around this point in the summer, I preempted my usual Mailbag format for a week in favor of something sure to grab readers' attention. Call it my version of a TV sweeps stunt. But my annual list of the "10 best and five worst" coaches heading into the season eventually faded away, in part because the 10 best didn't change much from one year to the next, but more so because -- unintentionally -- the "five worst" section inevitably stole all the spotlight. (It gave this Charlottesville, Va., columnist, for one, fodder for a day. In fact, readers should probably just stop this column now since it "... wasn't written by someone I know to be extremely knowledgeable of college football.")

Looks like CNS leads in all polls. The worst five, I thought was very close to the great coaches almost. RTR!

Bill Snyder is a good coach but not top 10.

Steve Spurrier needs to be in the top 10. He did great things at Florida and he has USCe better than anyone expected when he took that job.

Art Briles is rated too high. I know Baylor was terrible before he got there but he is only 25-14 in 3 years in a very weak Big 12.

Bill Snyder has twice now turned around a lousy Kansas State team and made it a national contender.  Kansas State!  This is how Wiki describes KSU before he got there in 1989:

Quote
When Snyder was hired at K-State for the first time on November 24, 1988, he took over a program that had a cumulative record of 299–510 (.370) in 93 years of play, which was easily the most losses of any team in Division I-A at the time. The school had been to only one bowl game (the 1982 Independence Bowl), had not won a conference title since 1934 and had enjoyed four winning seasons in the previous 44 years (including two in the previous 34 years). The program had also not won a game since October 1986, going 0-26-1 in that time.
Prior to Snyder's first season in 1989, Sports Illustrated published an article about Kansas State football entitled "Futility U," which labeled the school "America's most hapless team."

So I'm not going to argue with where they put him, as long as it is after Saban.

This quote about Urban Meyer made me gag:

Quote
While initially viewed as a spread-offense guru, he is now renowned for his unique ability to charm and connect with both recruits and players, something that's produced consistent success.

I think Gary Patterson may be a bit overrated.  He's a small-school media darling who just went 7-6 in his first year playing in the Big12.

Cant believe Briles and Petrino made the list, ahead of Spurrier and Strong.

Gotta agree with Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weis being in the worst list...

Spurrier being left off is just crazy.  I'd also take David Shaw over about 6 or 7 names there.

No way Briles is a better coach than Spurrier. I'm no fan of the Visor, but he is a heck'uva coach.
