On ESPN radio out here today, they were talking about a little known/used rule where it is the players responsibility to stop people/institutions from using the players name/attire/signature to make money.  They said the NCAA had enough to get JM with this rule alone.  And yes the NCAA store was doing this up until this week.

We won't see the NCAA using this rule.

There have been some good opinions by everyone about this and it's anybody's guess as to how this scenario will play out, but this issue may be the straw that breaks the camel's (NCAA) back.

There has been too much talk about establishing a new conference, super conference, and I think the media will be the driving force if this change is to happen. Again it's anybody's guess but I'm getting a strong feeling that this is what some folks(media) have been waiting on to have any leverage or chance in making these changes happen.

The most interesting part is about to happen though, will the NCAA drag their feet on this and force A&M to make a decision to play or not play Manziel.

Don't know whether to call it 'foot dragging' or what, but IMHO NCAA doesn't have enough info to make a decision to suspend JFF, so they will keep quiet, i.e. they won't comment one way or the other.  So the cloud over him will linger.

What aTm will then do is anybody's guess, but, I'll expect they will use the "innocent until proven guilty" approach and say that after all the 'stuff' that's gone on, including their own investigation, nothing  has come out to disqualify JFF, so he'll play.

The fact that A&M hired a legal team means they plan to fight this ("all in").  They'll sink or swim with the lawyers.

The Chancellor was on ESPN today saying that college athletes should be able to charge for autographs just like Olympic athletes.

Law could be trouble for brokers in Manziel case

If Johnny Manziel did violate NCAA rules by receiving money for signing autographs, a Texas law could put the people who allegedly paid him at risk of being sued by Texas A&M.
Christian Dennie, an attorney with Barlow Garsek & Simon, LLP in Fort Worth, Texas, writes on the firm's website (Click here for link ) that the state of Texas passed legislation in 1987 to make ''a person who violates a rule of a national collegiate athletic association ... liable for damages in an action brought by an institution.''
To be liable, the person must have known or reasonably should have known a rule was violated and the violation must lead to disciplinary action against the student or institution.''

We now have proof that Texas A&M is "all in" and has sold its soul to win at all cost. Welcome to Auburn.

Quote
Texas A&M chancellor John Sharp said a mouthful in less than two minutes this week in an interview with the Dallas Morning News, defending Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel’s character, questioning the credibility of his accusers, criticizing the NCAA and suggesting it is unfair for schools and the NCAA to make money off of athletes who aren’t allowed to make money off themselves

Is this the guy that was going to suspend him last year before the coach wrote a letter or was it someone else?

I've kind of sat back and watched this situation unfold. This is JMHO, but I think that Manziel is big time guilty and aTm knows he's big time guilty. They've brought the lawyers in because they know that:

1) The NCAA has egg on their face for selling gear on their web site making the money that JF is not allowed to do.

2) The NCAA is a much weaker organization than it used to be, and is losing steam by the minute.

These 2 facts, in the eyes of aTm, means that the NCAA is ripe for the picking, and it's these attorneys that can go for the NCAA jugular.

If they can't get it done before the Bama game, they will roll the dice and play JF, thinking their chances are pretty good at beating the NCAA.

Like I said, this is just my opinion, but I really feel they are going down this road.

Agreed.  Like others have said, if you play hard-ball with the NCAA, they will back down.  It's really a shame Bama didn't fight back -- poor counselling by certain law school faculty who apparently had never litigated an actual case.
