Coach Kevin Sumlin on Monday said he would not speculate when asked if Johnny Manziel will be his starter on Aug. 31 against Rice following an ESPN report that the NCAA is investigating whether the Heisman Trophy winner was paid for signing hundreds of autographs last January.

''There's a lot of people involved in that decision,'' Sumlin said without being specific.

1. ... take so long that JFF will finish the year first;
2. ... find him innocent (well, maybe);
3. ... punish him after the big game (GUESS WHO), allowing him to sit during nothing games and before the bowl games;
4. ... be so inept in their investigation (without subpoenas) that even a one-legged, blind hooker could escape their net.

Regardless of what the NCAA finds or does not find this circus has to be distracting to the team. A&M has a lot of holes to fill from last years team on both sides of the ball. I am not sure they have future all-SEC talent sitting on the bench to fill those holes like we do. This is a coaches nightmare.

... and sad that it takes a $500/hr attorney to prove your innocence in a judicial system based on "innocent until proven guilty".

An East Coast autograph broker told ESPN on Tuesday that Johnny Manziel was paid $7,500 for signing approximately 300 mini- and full-sized helmets on Jan. 11-12 while he was attending the Walter Camp Football Foundation event.

The broker played two cell phone videos for ESPN showing Manziel signing white Texas A&M helmets and footballs laid out on a bed in a hotel room. The video does not show Manziel accepting any money

I'm thinking Manziel never took the money directly.  $7500 seems like slim pickins.  Maybe he is that dumb, but I doubt it.  The money could have gone to his family's "Johnny Football" business.  If that is the case, then we have another SCam scenario.  Sounds like the broker is trying to cash in.
