Now ESPN reporting he signed for two additional brokers. 4,400 items signed.
Shocked Shocked
I may have to revise my comments.

I have to revise my comments as well. He is in deeper hot water than I originally thought.

The NCAA needs to show some backbone and gain back at least a hint of credibility. The NCAA needs credibility right now more than they need JF.

Don't hold your breath, pmull. I don't think there is any credibility left with the NCAA. Emmert and the rest of the Keystone Cops (what's left of them) are the laughing stock of college athletics right now.

I would actually like to see A&M man up and self report. They are looking like a win at all cost program right now, very similar to the barn in 2010.

They will follow the Auburn example, deny everything, demand proof from the NCAA, and threaten a lawsuit against the NCAA.

There's one thing for sure though, the NCAA can put one more nail in their coffin lid if this thing becomes another Keystone Cops case. Wink

I agree.  A&M will not 'man up'.  I had contract work with A&M, and this (above) behavior is the A&M I know.  They are Aub West; stepchildren in their states, and willing to sell their mothers for cash..

During my work with them, they did a shoddy job and got caught in it.  Then they lied to me, their university defended their lies, and they sold out (until Senator J. Bennett Johnston took away their funding).  I lost respect for that school 25 years ago.

So, I fully expect them to accept JFF's behavior, because the money is more important than their pride/class.  A&M is not Alabama.  "Man up' is not in their vocabulary.

I have never disliked A&M. The Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings connection is the main reason I guess. But they are starting to pizz me off. IMO they will show us who they really are in how they handle the JF saga.

I used to be an A&M fan.  I grew up cheering for them, had relatives who went there for school, and enjoyed the Bryant days at A&M.  But the school sold out to the cash cow during the 1980s.

Of the many things I found odd about the OTL piece on Manziel a week before the allegations broke one of the strangest was the repeated emphasis on the family's wealth.  It all makes sense now.  The family was playing the reporter to try sway public opinion before the scandal broke.  But I'm beginning to think even his parents didn't know the scope of the allegations that were about to come to the surface.

If there was only one incident in question they might be able to explain it away.  With each new allegation it becomes harder to defend.

I doubt that Manziel will play another down at A&M.

You know bamaphil, I am leaning your way also. He had so much promise to represent Texas A&M proudly but him being an adolescent and acting that age too, it is sad that so much press has ruined him. RTR!

I think you can pinpoint all of the NCAA's enforcement problems on two previous cases, the Alabama case and Tennessee Coach Bruce Pearl. In both situations, honesty was rewarded with being treated like crap. Alabama threw itself on the "mercy" of the NCAA and got hammered, being called out in a holier-than-thou way by their staff, and their smug satisfaction with their treatment of the Tide was disgusting. Bruce Pearl admitted lying to the NCAA and was rewarded with being fired and ostracized. I actually admire Auburn standing up to the NCAA back when they were investigated under Tuberville, then Cam. Auburn learned from us that honesty was NOT the best policy, but fighting and threatening legal action worked and got the NCAA off their back. Auburn stood up for itself, looking back, I wish we had, too.

Not getting caught does not make it right. I want to win as much as anyone but I want to do it within the rules.

I guess my point is, the NCAA must refine its punishments. In law enforcement, you get people to confess by giving them a break on their charges, that's why they work with you. The NCAA does the exact opposite, so why be honest or confess? We must deal with reality, not some abstract ideal. Let's say the NCAA had taken 8-10 scholarships from Bama, the head coach fired, & maybe a bowl ban, then other programs would not be so hesitant to cover things up. Just an idea.

MD has hit the nail on the head. Let's not get all puffy and moralistic. In doing so we start to sound like the big 10ers who are on us about our scholly limits and medical redshirts etc. Bama gets the maximal competitive edge possible by taking full advantage of the system as it is developed and maintained by the NCAA. To the extent that the unwritten rule appears to be that you make out better by denying, stonewalling, and exploiting the NCAAs lack of subpeona power, then any smart program would do just that. If you think we wouldn't do the same thing if it was Bama under the gun, you are naive.

The thing that really continues to bother me about this whole thing is the media reaction (at least what I hear on the radio stations up here). It's all about "Oh, he's just 20 years old. What kind of stupid things did we do at 20 years old?" As if being 20 years old gives you immunity from breaking the rules.
