Alabama leaves for Europe tomorrow (Thursday) and plays their first game on Staurday 8/10. You can follow their trip on the blog link below set up by Rolltide.com. This will be a good place for us to discuss the trip and games as well.

The University of Alabama men's basketball team will travel to Europe this summer as part of a 10-day trip in which it will play games against international competition in preparation for the 2013-14 season. Head coach Anthony Grant and his Crimson Tide will depart Tuscaloosa on Aug. 8, and will play a total of five contests in three countries: The Netherlands, Belgium and France. Alabama will return to campus on Aug. 18.

During the 10-day trip, which begins in The Netherlands, RollTide.com will feature a blog titled "Crimson Tide Brands Itself To The World" which will feature daily videos, pictures and a coach/player blog on all the men’s basketball team’s activities during the trip. Hope you all enjoy this behind-the-scenes perspective from our student-athletes and coaches!

It sounds like some round robin type games. If they go over there and come home at 75% I would be well pleased. This could show us what we need to work before the season. RTR!

I wonder if any of these games will be televised.

Bama Hoops Blog has a good post out today. They preview the Tide Roster starting with the guards. I thought it was a good assessment of each player.

The team arrived in Amsterdam at 11:00 CT last night. They left T-town at 5:15 CT yesterday morning. A long day on planes and in airports. They will spend three days in Amsterdam and play their first game Saturday.

Obasohan has a video posted on the Blog (link is on the first post of this thread). It has very little to do with basketball but shows the team having a good time on their travel day.

This is a good experience for the Tide. The Europeans play a very physical game and this will help the Tide to "toughen up" and learn how to deal with physical teams. Plus, European BB plays a very by-the-book game which plays the basics of the game very well, like free throw shooting, blocking out (no comment), setting screens, etc.

The Tuscaloosa News ran this article today and all I could say was wow, I was really surprised at how the team prepaired for their trip to Europe.

It is good to see the older players coming back. Those were some pretty good players. Most of them are still playing in Europe leagues.

If you are not the following the blog in the link at the top of this thread you should be. The players are having a lot of fun but they are also looking forward to their first game tomorrow.

I have been and it's great for them to see other parts of the world, something that most of them otherwise would not have had the opportunity to do had not it been for playing for Bama. If the players are actually writing all of this, I'm very impressed with what and how they have written it, maybe this is why some of their GPAs are pretty good.

Game 2 in Europe is in progress. Bama leads 21-15 at the end of the 1st qtr.

Quote
#Alabama trailed 10-5 to start but went on a 13-2 run & leads by six, 21-15, after the 1st quarter. Releford & Engstrom leads UA with 5 pts

I am surprised Jimmie Taylor and Shannon Hale are starting. CAG may just be trying different lineups. No question Obasohan would start this game since they are playing in his home town.

Quote
Other starters along with Obasohan include Trevor Releford, Shannon Hale, Jimmie Taylor and Levi Randolph. Tip off just moments away!
